In Ostravice, you can plan your trip around a range of interests: the Lysá hora educational trail focuses on hiking and landscape, Petr Bezruč on literary history, while several exhibitions and the church offer other cultural experiences. If you are looking for a hotel in Ostravice, first consider which of these topics you would like to explore during your stay.

Hiking and nature along the Lysá hora educational trail

The Lysá hora educational trail is 16.5 km long and has 15 stops. At the summit, near the meteorological station, there are two additional information panels. Its subject matter ranges from the legend of the bandit Ondráš and tales of caves and treasures to the region’s former landscape and its flora and fauna. Those interested in nature and landscape will find a different focus here from the legends and tales about Ondráš, caves and treasures.

The trail can be started at either of two locations by Ostravice railway station. The section from Ostravice to the summit follows the red-marked hiking trail. These provide different points of reference for planning: the two locations by the station are the starting points, while the red marking identifies the described section to the summit.

Petr Bezruč: summer house, exhibition and landscape

The Srub Petra Bezruče preserves the living area of the poet’s summer house in its original form, including the interior furnishings designed by Petr Bezruč himself. The adjoining wooden shed houses the “Krajem Petra Bezruče” exhibition, established in 1983. A visit offers the chance to discover the authentic setting of the summer house and stories from the poet’s life. The landscape below the Beskids also features, along with its difficult past, which Bezruč captured in his major work “Slezské písně.” The Srub thus brings together the poet’s personal surroundings and his literary engagement with the landscape.

Art: an annual event and a permanent exhibition

The art group named after Petr Bezruč was founded in 1970. Its exhibition was held annually in Ostravice until 2017 and, since 2019, has been held in July in the gymnasium of the elementary school; it lasts about four weeks. In addition, “Ráj dřevěných soch” is a permanent exhibition of carved works by woodcarver Luděk Vančura. It is located next to the municipal office in Biskupská Garden. The two offerings also differ in their timing: the art group’s event takes place in July, while “Ráj dřevěných soch” is a permanent exhibition.

Church architecture and a painting

The Roman Catholic church in Ostravice was built in 1788–1789 in a so-called folk style with Baroque influences, and has been a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1999. Above the altar is a painting by B. Herbert dating from 1706. The painting is therefore older than the church building—a clear contrast in the dates of the furnishings and the architecture.
