Skotnice combines a well-preserved rural character with geological and historical features. Along the Lubina River, the character of the original rural settlement has been preserved. This gives you several distinct aspects of the village to explore during your stay: the landscape around Hončova hůrka, the watermill and museum, as well as facilities in Skorotín. The range extends from geological orientation and local history to sports and play facilities.

Landscape and geology at Hončova hůrka

The disused quarry on Hončova hůrka forms a prominent feature of the landscape. The hill is also a distinctive mineralogical site at 336 metres above sea level. The Czech Geological Survey lists it as an interesting geological site; it is also part of the Podbeskydí National Geopark. Its special geological status adds to the hill’s striking presence in the landscape. From Hončova hůrka, views extend south to Příbor and west into the Lubina valley and over Skotnice. Information about access and the summit is also useful for getting your bearings: Hončova hůrka can be reached by car with no access restrictions; a road comes within 250 metres of the site. A field track leads to the summit.

Museum, watermill and local history

The “Muzeum venkovského života a zemědělství” (Museum of Rural Life and Agriculture) is located in the attic of the Skotnice municipal office. It first opened to the public in mid-April 2011. Its name refers to rural life and agriculture; if you plan to visit the museum, check current visiting options in advance. The watermill in Skotnice has uniquely preserved technical equipment. It was built in the second half of the 19th century and probably stands on older foundations. Skotnice also has a three-tiered brick wayside shrine dating from the first half of the 19th century. The dates place the mill and the shrine in different halves of the same century: the mill in the second, the shrine in the first. In this way, technical equipment, rural museum themes and a small historic brick monument can all be found side by side.

Leisure in Skorotín and the village

Skorotín has a publicly accessible sports and recreation area with an asphalt-surfaced sports ground. The ground is intended for football, volleyball, football tennis and basketball. There is also a multi-purpose children’s playground on the banks of the Lubina in Skorotín. Elsewhere, the Komunitní centrum “Partnerství” (Partnership Community Centre) in Skotnice includes an outdoor classroom and a maze. The facilities are therefore spread across different locations and cover different activities: the sports ground and playground are in Skorotín, while the outdoor classroom and maze are part of the centre in Skotnice. Cycle route No. 6039 also passes through Skotnice; it runs through Kopřivnice, Příbor, Skotnice, Sedlnice and Studénka.
