Čehovice: Church, Village History and Nature Trail
Accommodation in Čehovice
Čehovice brings together the Church of St. Prokop and other traces of local history with a nature trail and a cycling link. The Vřesůvka flows along the edge of the village. If you are looking for a hotel in Čehovice, you can plan your trip around whether the Baroque church, the history of the village’s former site, or walking and cycling routes are your main focus. Local points of interest range from a historic landmark to finds from various centuries, offering several concrete starting points for planning.
Church and Religious Tradition
The Church of St. Prokop is considered the heart of Čehovice’s village square and the municipality’s oldest monument. It is a single-nave, east-oriented Baroque church dating from 1788–1789; the present church was built in 1789 using materials from the old church. Its architectural style, precise dates and local significance make it a clear focal point for travelers who want to center their visit on cultural landmarks. The church grounds include a well-kept park with mature trees. A Hodová Mass is usually celebrated in the church on the Sunday closest to the feast day of St. Prokop on July 4. If you would like to plan your visit around this religious occasion, check the exact Sunday before your trip.
Chapel, Former Village Site and Finds
The small Chapel of St. Prokop on Stráž Hill offers a different perspective on Čehovice. It bears the date 1634 and commemorates the village’s original site. After it was presumably destroyed in wartime, Čehovice was rebuilt about one kilometer farther down, near the Vřesůvka. The chapel and the stream thus mark two reference points in a local history also shaped by the village’s relocation.
The older past is also reflected in finds from the Poblatí and Jelítka fields. In 1947, a find from the Middle Danubian Tumulus culture was discovered in Poblatí; it included several gold wires and decorated gold foil. In 1920, deep plowing in Jelítka brought to light a large pottery assemblage from the same cultural period. The gold find and pottery assemblage differ in material, but belong to the same cultural period and were discovered in different fields. Together, these stories of archaeological finds broaden the picture of Čehovice beyond its surviving buildings.
Nature Trail and Cycling
The Čehovice nature trail forms a circular route and is suitable for walks and bike rides. Six information boards cover the wetland biocorridor, local history and the municipality’s cultural landmarks. Field conditions may vary; take this into account when planning.
The section of the cycle route from Bedihošť to Čehovice is 1.734 kilometers long, was built in 2006 and runs alongside the railway line. Unlike the nature trail, it is described as a link between two named places, not as a circular route. The II/367 road is a separate route: it passes through Bedihošť, Čehovice and Čelčice and is the only direct connection between these municipalities and Prostějov. Cyclists also use this busy road.
