Bílá Lhota: Arboretum, Morava floodplain and regional routes
Accommodation in Bílá Lhota
Bílá Lhota lies in the Morava floodplain, which is characterized by meadows and floodplain forests. The arboretum, an Agricultural Exhibition and regional tours offer different focal points for planning a trip.
Arboretum and river landscape
The Bílá Lhota Arboretum is a national natural monument on a south-facing slope and covers just under three hectares. The grounds contain around 300 different species and cultivars of woody plants. Cultivars are selected or bred forms of plants; the figure therefore refers to species and cultivars, not individual trees. It describes the diversity of the collection and its botanical focus.
The park opened to the public in 1968 under the name Arboretum in Bílé Lhotě. The Hrabůvka stream is also part of the local landscape: it flows through Bílá Lhota and the arboretum before joining the Morava. Thus, the woody plant collection on the south-facing slope and the river floodplain, characterized by meadows and floodplain forests, offer distinct natural settings.
Nature conservation is also part of the local landscape. The Bílá Lhota Natural Monument protects a habitat of the greater mouse-eared bat (Myotis myotis). Bílá Lhota is also home to a very significant summer colony of this species.
Exhibition, Easter event and monuments
The Agricultural Exhibition (Zemědělská expozice) presents various aspects of agriculture and rural life. Its exhibits include a carriage from the early 20th century and a Burco machine for making straw ropes. The two objects represent different aspects of the exhibition: a means of transport and a machine for processing straw. There are also herb beds with several dozen medicinal plants and a large sandpit for children.
“Velikonoce v Arboretu” is an annual Easter event. Activities mentioned include willow-rod weaving, children’s workshops, archery, birds of prey and sheep. Individual program items may vary. If the event is important to your travel plans, check the dates and program in advance.
Two different monuments offer a cultural addition: the Church of St. Catherine is one of the municipality’s protected monuments. Bílá Lhota Castle is a local monument dating from the early 19th century. Both provide a link to the area’s architectural and cultural history without replacing the town’s focus on nature and exhibitions.
Regional tours
The regional cycling loop “Od hradu do podzemí – z Bouzova do jeskyní” follows cycle route 512 through Podolí and Hrabí to Bílá Lhota. Another tourist route, Jesenec–Bouzov–Bílá Lhota, is 22.5 kilometers long, moderately difficult and has 305 meters of elevation gain. The tours offer different reference points: the second has a stated length, difficulty level and elevation gain, while the cycling loop can be identified by its cycle route and its course through Podolí and Hrabí.
