Bludov: Cultural History and Nature
Accommodation in Bludov
Bludov offers cultural and historical points of interest as well as scenic attractions. These range from a Neoclassical pilgrimage complex and St. George’s Church to a circular trail, a nature park and a natural swimming pool. When planning a stay, you can match your interests to specific visiting conditions: an approximate walking time is provided for the educational trail, and visiting the Žerotín crypt requires an appointment in advance.
Culture and History
The Boží Tělo site is a Neoclassical pilgrimage complex. It includes the Božího Těla Church, the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, a wayside shrine, the Stonův Cross and a Way of the Cross. The pilgrimage site thus comprises several distinct sacred features; those interested in religious architecture can look beyond a single church building.
St. George’s Church features a ceiling painting dating from 1895. It was created using an industrial painting technique that is unique throughout Moravia. The Žerotín crypt is located right next to the church; the mortal remains of Karel the Elder of Žerotín rest there. The crypt can be visited by prior arrangement. If you plan to visit, make arrangements in advance.
The orangery at Bludov Chateau is among the oldest preserved orangeries in North Moravia and the Czech Republic. Bludov Castle has a different place in history: it was probably built around the middle of the 13th century and was captured and destroyed by Matthias Corvinus in 1471. The castle ruins lie on Hradisko Hill near Zámeček.
Cultural events are held in the hall of Bludov Chateau. There are only a few opportunities to see inside the chateau. If you would like to attend an event or see the interior, check the relevant dates and visiting options in advance.
Pradědovo dětské muzeum is considered the first regional children’s museum in the Czech Republic. It is suitable in all weather and open year-round. Check the current opening hours before your visit so you can plan your museum visit around the applicable visitor arrangements.
Trails and Nature
The Bludovská stráň educational trail is a 4.5 km circular route. At a leisurely pace, it takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. The trail can be accessed from the U zámku car park, which also has a bus stop, and from Bludov railway station. Check transport information before setting out.
Bludovská stráň is a wooded slope about 3 km long and was registered as a significant landscape feature on June 20, 1995. Gryngle Nature Park provides a habitat for numerous bird species, including rare tawny owls. Alongside the circular trail, the wooded slope and a bird habitat are therefore separate nature-related points of interest.
Beach volleyball can be played at the Vlčí důl natural swimming pool. A natural healing spring rises on the grounds of Lázně Bludov: mineral thermal water of the sulfate-chloride-sodium type.
When planning, you can compare attractions by the time they require and their access conditions: an approximate walking time is given for the circular trail, the crypt requires an appointment in advance, and the chateau interior can be visited only on a few occasions. For a visit regardless of the weather, the children’s museum, which is open year-round, is an option; check its current opening hours.
