Dzbel: Hiking, Nature and Local History
Accommodation in Dzbel
If you are considering Dzbel as a destination, you will find a variety of highlights: the Kladecko educational trail, the protected Na Kozénku natural monument, and chapels with distinctive architectural features. The local history also includes both iron ore smelting and flax processing. This gives you the opportunity to decide whether you are most interested in outdoor activities, nature, or architectural and economic history during your stay.
Hiking and protected landscapes
As of August 2026, the Kladecko educational trail is suitable for hiking and mountain biking. Its stops cover settlements that no longer exist and sites of former iron ore mining. The trail is therefore suited to travelers who want to combine outdoor activities with an interest in settlements or historic mining.
The protected Na Kozénku natural monument lies north of Dzbel. Its meadow communities and a disused limestone quarry are protected. Unlike the educational trail, whose stops cover settlement and mining topics, the defining landscape features here are meadows and the former quarry. A disused limestone quarry is a former site of limestone extraction.
Chapels and architectural styles
The Chapel of St. Anne stands behind Dzbel railway station. Its façade faces east; corner pilasters and an attic gable topped with volutes define its design. Pilasters are flat, pillar-like wall features, while volutes are curled ornamental forms. The architectural emphasis here is on the façade’s form and details.
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is a masonry building with a rectangular floor plan and a semicircular end. A small hexagonal roof turret sits in the middle of the ridge of its gabled roof. The semicircular end corresponds to an apse. In contrast to St. Anne’s, this chapel’s floor plan and roof structure take center stage; the two buildings thus offer different architectural features to look out for.
Local history and waterways
Iron ore mined at Ródnéch, north of Dzbel, was smelted in a nearby furnace at Hirtův mlýn, below the village. Smelting means processing ore in a furnace, adding another stage of work to the story of mining. In addition, flax was grown on a larger scale in Dzbel and woven into linen for domestic use. Thus, alongside ore extraction and smelting, flax cultivation and linen production stand out as distinct aspects of local history.
A stream rises below Sládkova skála, at Dzbel railway stop. The watercourse flowing toward Konice is called the Jesenka; the one flowing toward Moravská Třebová is called the Třebůvka.
Practical information
When planning your arrival, it is important to consider access to the station: in 2026, neither the station building nor the platforms at Dzbel are wheelchair accessible. Take this limitation into account when making your plans.
