Discover Kojetín: Culture, Architectural History and Nature
Accommodation in Kojetín
Kojetín offers several different points of interest for planning a trip: architectural history, museum collections, recurring cultural events and a nature trail at the Biocentre. If you are looking for a hotel in Kojetín, these themes can help you tailor your stay to your interests. Depending on whether you are interested in historic buildings, theatre culture or waterscapes, you can choose a different focus.
Architectural history and collections
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the city’s most significant historic monument. It is located near the main square on Olomouc–Kroměříž Road, which runs through the city centre. Kojetín’s former synagogue is another historic landmark: it was built in the mid-15th century and is one of the city’s oldest buildings. The special significance of the church and the great age of the former synagogue offer two distinct perspectives on Kojetín’s architectural history.
The Kojetín City Museum holds evidence of permanent settlement in the area of the present-day city dating back to the Palaeolithic. The collection also includes examples of folk art, traditional costumes and folk ceramics, an extensive numismatic collection, and a significant collection of old prints. Admission to the VIC Gallery and the museum’s permanent exhibition in Kojetín is free. Check the latest visitor information before your visit.
Museum and group visits
For school and children’s groups, the City Museum offers guided tours led by information or museum staff, along with accompanying programmes, by prior arrangement. Groups must have at least three and no more than 20 people; visits to “Hrůzostrašné sklepení” are limited to ten people. When planning a group visit, therefore, both advance booking and the applicable group size are important.
Cultural events throughout the year
Since 1999, Kojetínské hody has been celebrated every year in mid-August as a three-day event with a traditionally varied programme. March is traditionally dedicated to amateur theatre in Kojetín, when the regional qualifying showcase for amateur theatre groups, Divadelní Kojetín, takes place. The events have different focuses: the multi-day festival is on the calendar in mid-August, while the qualifying showcase takes place in March. If you would like to combine your trip with an event, check the specific dates in advance.
Nature trail and water areas
The Naučná stezka Biocentrum Kojetín nature trail runs around the Na Hrázi pond and through part of the Biocentre, crossing a footbridge along the way. Part of the Biocentre consists of artificial pools and channels that support aquatic wildlife. The route is suitable for children, families with children, schools, older people and tourists; people with pushchairs and wheelchair users are also among the groups mentioned.
The Kojetín swimming pool complex has pools, a water slide, a Kamikaze slide, a whirlpool and other water attractions. As facilities may change, check the latest information before visiting.
