Lobodice offers several different themes to help you plan your trip: the Moravská stezka runs through the village, the Zástudánčí National Nature Reserve covers the cadastral areas of Lobodice and Tovačov, and historic buildings stand in the village square. There are also opportunities for fishing, as well as the Hody festivities held every year toward the end of summer. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Lobodice, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your trip.

Natural Environment and Birdlife

The Zástudánčí National Nature Reserve protects a well-preserved floodplain forest along an unregulated stretch of the Morava River, as well as a rich bird-breeding area. The reserve was established on 24 February 1953 and covers 111.2782 hectares. The combination of floodplain forest, an unregulated river and a breeding area defines the character of this protected area. Zástudánčí is also considered an important resting zone for disturbance-sensitive bird species. White-tailed eagles, ospreys, black kites and goosanders may be spotted there, although sightings are not guaranteed. If you are interested in birdlife, you can keep these species in mind as possible sightings without assuming you will definitely see them during your visit. This nature theme complements the historic buildings that feature elsewhere in the history of Lobodice.

Cycling Route and Fishing

For cyclists, the Moravská stezka is a specific point of reference: it runs through Lobodice. Along the route, route number 5040 continues toward Kojetín from the signpost in the village. Check the local signs and route number before setting out. This will help you take the information about the Moravská stezka and route 5040 into account when finding your way.

Fishing is another possible activity, with two different bodies of water to consider: in Lobodice, you can fish directly on the Morava; in the vicinity of Lobodice, you can fish at Skašovské jezero. If you are choosing between these options, note the difference between a fishing spot directly on the Morava and the lake nearby. Check the applicable fishing regulations separately.

Buildings and Historical Monuments

The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary stands in the village square and is a valuable Baroque building dating from 1771. In the park in the village square, in front of the church, stands a life-size sandstone statue of St. John of Nepomuk on a tall pedestal. House No. 47 in the village square is a preserved Žudr; its exterior vaulting, like the house itself, dates from the 17th century. The square thus brings together a variety of historical features: a Baroque church, a sandstone figure and a house known as a Žudr.

Other architectural features offer a glimpse into different periods. The stone cross at the intersection toward Polkovice dates from 1717. The four-sided wayside shrine, Boží muka, stands on the right-hand side of the road from Polkovice and dates from the mid-19th century. The preserved building of the power station in Lobodice retains part of its original façade, with the inscription “Elektrárna města Kojetína” and an archbishop’s coat of arms bearing the year 1704. Comparing the dates takes you from the 17th-century Žudr, through the coat of arms dated 1704 and the stone cross of 1717, to the church of 1771 and the wayside shrine from the mid-19th century. This makes it possible to distinguish the buildings and monuments by period rather than assigning them all to a single era.

Hody in Late Summer

Hody festivities take place in Lobodice every year toward the end of summer. If you would like to plan your visit around them, check the date for the relevant year before travelling. This lets you include the recurring annual tradition in your trip plans.
