Němčice Nad Hanou
Accommodation in Němčice Nad Hanou
Němčice nad Hanou offers several ways to explore the town’s history: archaeological finds, a historic parish church, ethnographic traditions and theater. There is also the Masarykova lípa educational trail, with themes from history and nature. You can shape your trip around what you would like to learn more about.
Church and archaeological traces
One of the important landmarks in Němčice nad Hanou is the parish Church of St. Mary Magdalene. Its original stone structure dates from the late 15th century. The church was severely damaged in 1663 during a Tatar invasion. The freestanding bell tower is 37 meters high and is a protected landmark. It is one of five freestanding bell towers in Moravia.
Archaeological finds also offer insight into the town’s history. The Němčice nad Hanou site yielded Celtic coins and other coins from the ancient world. Numerous coin fragments, blanks and pieces of precious metal attest to the La Tène settlement’s role in production. These are distinct kinds of evidence: the historic church building and finds associated with a much earlier settlement.
Another part of the town’s cultural history dates back to 1887. That year, the first ethnographic exhibition in the Bohemian lands was held in Němčice nad Hanou.
Costume, folklore and theater
A municipal cultural newsletter from 2020 describes the Hanácký němčický kroj as a local symbol and highlights its rich embroidery and lace. The Pantlék ethnographic ensemble has been active since 1991 and continues to preserve and present ethnographic traditions in Němčice nad Hanou. If you would like to attend a performance, check the specific dates before your trip.
Theater is also part of the town’s cultural history. Němčice nad Hanou first hosted a showcase of theater ensembles in 1971; since 1983, the theater showcases have been held annually. Since 1994, the annual showcase of amateur theater ensembles has been called Hanácký divadelní máj. It is a regional showcase of rural theater ensembles and spoken-word theater for children. Selected ensembles may advance to KDP Vysoké n. J. or CP Popelka Rakovník.
The Hanácký divadelní máj program varies from year to year. If you would like to combine your trip with a performance, check the dates and the program for that year. This lets you plan your visit around a specific cultural event rather than assume the program stays the same.
Educational trail and cycling
The Masarykova lípa educational trail is a 1.5-kilometer walking route. There are six information boards along the route, with two more in the grove near the Masaryk Linden. The trail introduces the history, nature and surroundings of Němčice nad Hanou. Its boards cover the town’s history, T. G. Masaryk, plants, animals and geography; interactive boards focus on flora and fauna.
The route thus combines local history with nature themes without requiring you to plan a long walk: the stated distance is 1.5 kilometers. Cultural events have also been held in the renovated Masarykova lípa grove. This connection between landscape and culture complements the information along the walking route.
For cyclists, Na bicyklech Němčickem is another option. A 2025 edition describes it as a traditional cycling tour. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the dates and arrangements for that year. The church, archaeological finds and educational trail offer different themes that you can explore independently of any particular event program.
