The Velké mechové jezírko (Great Moss Lake) reveals a distinctive natural side of Jeseník District: the rare moorland ecosystem there formed 6,000 to 7,000 years ago. In contrast are guided visits to Jánský Vrch, museums and a long healing tradition. When planning a hotel stay, you can first consider whether nature, heritage or a particular activity will be the focus of your trip.

Heritage and healing tradition

Jánský Vrch is the only heritage monument in Jeseník District open to the public and, together with its landscape park, is a local landmark. Four tours are currently offered; the tour programme may change. Check the latest tour information before your visit. The first tour includes the state rooms and an exhibition of historic pipes, considered one of the largest in Czechia. You can also enter the flanking tower; check current access arrangements before your visit.

Another cultural site is the Vodní tvrz (Water Fortress) in Jeseník, with four permanent exhibitions. As the exhibition programme may change, it is worth checking the latest information before your visit. The Spirála času Země (Spiral of Earth’s Time) exhibition explores the geomorphological development of the Jesenícko area in relation to the formation and development of the Earth. It is available in Czech, English, German and Polish; these exhibition details may also change.

Priessnitz hydrotherapy has been part of Czechia’s intangible cultural heritage since 2014. Visitors can try hydrotherapy for free at the Balneopark; check the current offer before your visit. Several dozen springs from the heyday of the spas in the 19th century can also be found on Studniční vrch. The healing tradition is therefore present here both as cultural heritage and through specific places and activities.

Moorland, water and rock

Rejvíz protects a complex of moorland ecosystems, including the species associated with them and their environment. A nature trail leads to Velké mechové jezírko. As trail infrastructure may change, check the latest route information before setting out. The destination and the age of the moorland ecosystem give the nature experience a clear connection to the landscape and the history of the Earth.

The Nýznerovské vodopády (Nýznerov Waterfalls) are a different kind of geological feature: designated a natural monument in 1965, they form a geomorphologically significant gorge of crystalline schists along the Stříbrný potok. Obří skály (Giant Rocks) is a rock formation of staurolite schist, 10 to 16 metres high. Together, these places illustrate the district’s varied rock formations and landscape features.

Trails for different activities

The Schroth–Priessnitz nature trail links spa facilities in Jeseník with the Na Pomezí saddle and has eight stops. The Čarodějnická (Witches’) cycling route passes through the Czech-Polish border region; its Czech section is 136 kilometres long. When planning, bear in mind the route’s geographical scope: the stated length applies to the Czech section of the cycling route.

The cross-country skiing loop on Smrk offers a different way to get active. It reaches Smrk, at 1,127 metres the highest peak in the Rychleby Mountains. Together, a cross-border cycling route and a cross-country skiing loop with a named summit destination offer different types of activity. Take seasonal conditions into account when making winter plans.

Jeseník railway station may also be useful for getting there: it is part of the integrated public transport system. Check current transport information before travelling if you plan to use it for your journey.

Architecture, cuisine and regional products

The Tančírna in Račí údolí is an Art Nouveau building that serves as a restaurant. It offers facilities for tourists and cyclists, a service room for skis and bicycles, and an information centre. As visitor facilities may change, check the current offer in advance.

Regional cuisine and crafts can also help guide your interests. Traditional Jeseníky recipes are based mainly on potatoes, cabbage and cream. In Jeseník, the small Jesenická čokoládovna makes chocolate by hand. The JESENÍKY originální produkt label identifies quality products and services associated with the Jeseníky region and guarantees the origin of the labelled products and services.
