Olšovec offers several different starting points for planning a stay: historic monuments, events at the Rybníček cultural and sports complex, the flooded former Lom Olšovec quarry, and cycling routes. If you are looking for hotels in Olšovec, these themes can help you choose a destination that suits your interests. Cultural history, seasonal events and outdoor activities each offer a different focus.

Buildings, Monuments and Remembrance

The village square is home to the bell tower, built in 1717 and designated a state monument. The bell in the tower bears the inscriptions “Sanctus Maria” and “Sanctus Johanesa”, as well as the year 1732. The two dates refer to different things: 1717 to the tower and 1732 to the bell. The chapel in Olšovec, dedicated to Saint Mary, dates from the 18th century. Its dedication provides a distinct religious note alongside the dates and inscriptions on the bell tower.

The stone cross at the crossroads towards Střítež dates from 1851. Its history also includes its former function: it was the final stop and place of farewell before deceased residents were taken to the cemetery in Střítež. The cross is therefore both a place of remembrance and evidence of earlier burial customs.

The monument to the victims of the First World War also serves as a memorial to T. G. Masaryk. The new bust of Masaryk at the monument was unveiled again on 7 March 1990. Two forms of remembrance stand side by side here: commemoration of the war’s victims and the honoring of Masaryk.

Residential building No. 17 is also among the historic buildings: formerly a bailiff’s house, it dates from around 1700. Its former function sets it apart from the religious buildings and memorials. In Boňkov, the wooden bell tower houses a bell dedicated to Saint Barbara, dating from 1703. The Chapel of the Holy Trinity in Boňkov has been reconstructed. The bell tower and chapel add further specific buildings to the historic points of interest, without requiring a particular itinerary.

Events at Rybníček

The Rybníček cultural and sports complex adds an event-focused perspective to travel planning. In summer, it serves as a venue for dances and discos. Firefighting competitions for young people and adults are held there every year; there are also recreational volleyball and football competitions. Thus, summer dances and discos are held alongside competitions for firefighting teams and recreational contests in two sports. If you want to plan your visit around an event, check the dates in advance, as the programme may change.

Landscape, Swimming and Cycling

The flooded former Lom Olšovec quarry has clear water and is a popular swimming spot. It is approximately 12 metres deep; swimming is at your own risk. Check local conditions before swimming. Another named landscape feature is Lípová skála, characterised by old trees and rocks.

Olšovec is considered an important crossroads for cycling routes. If planning a cycling trip, check the signage and route locally. The possible focuses of a stay therefore differ considerably: you can plan around historic buildings and memorial sites, an event date, the landscape or cycling.
