Přáslavice: History and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Přáslavice
The local history of Přáslavice offers two distinct starting points for planning a trip: historic buildings and a stone cross with specific dates, as well as two named cycling routes. The first written mention dates to 1131; the chapel, cross, and bell tower can each be placed in context by later dates. When looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether you would rather make the town’s history or cycling the focus of your stay.
Historic Dates in Přáslavice
A document by Jindřich Zdík, Bishop of Olomouc, mentions Přáslavice in writing for the first time in 1131. This early date stands alongside the later dates of individual buildings. The Chapel of St. Roch dates from 1767 and was completely renovated in 1970. Its year of construction can therefore be distinguished from its extensive later renovation. More than two centuries separate the two dates: the chapel thus connects its construction period with a much later renovation.
The stone cross in the center of Přáslavice adds a different event to the timeline. In the summer of 1943, it replaced an earlier wooden cross; that same summer, the stone cross was unveiled and consecrated. The cross’s predecessor, change of material, and consecration are all part of its story. This makes its historical sequence different from that of the chapel: for the chapel, the year it was built and its later renovation are the main points, while for the cross, the replacement of a wooden cross and its consecration are key. The comparison shows that local history encompasses not only construction dates but also changes to existing landmarks.
Bell Tower and War Memorial
The bell tower of the Czechoslovak Church was built next to the war memorial in 1930; the two still form an ensemble today. Unlike the chapel and cross, this example also highlights the relationship between two structures. The bell tower was completely renovated in 2006, and a new bell was installed on August 1, 2006. The renovation and the new bell were separate events in the same year. Alongside its construction in 1930, these mark two later milestones in its history.
Two Cycling Routes, Two Destinations
Cycling offers a different focus. The Přáslavice–Velký Újezd cycling route was created in 2009, and the Přáslavice–Doloplazy cycling route in 2018. Their names distinguish the routes by the destinations they lead to, and they were created in different years. If you would like to include one of the cycling routes in your trip plans, you can first choose between Velký Újezd and Doloplazy. This comparison focuses on each destination and adds a practical planning question to the historical look at the buildings.
Choose Accommodation Based on Your Reason for Travel
If you are interested in local history, you can consider the chapel, stone cross, and bell tower alongside the war memorial in terms of their different historical contexts: construction and renovation, replacement and consecration, and an ensemble and its later restoration. If cycling is important to your plans, the two destinations offer a different starting point. Then look for a hotel in Přáslavice based on your travel dates and the criteria that matter to you personally.
