Ptení is a center of the area around the Romže and lies roughly halfway between Konice and Prostějov. Several distinct themes come together for a visit: the Church of St. Martin, the history of the castle and a description of a green hiking route through the town center. There is also a mini-exhibition on local history and historical information about the landscape along the Romže. If you are looking for a hotel in Ptení, you can plan your visit around your interests in architecture, local history or a described route.

Church and Mini-Exhibition

The single-nave Church of St. Martin has a tower and two side chapels with oratories. The chapels are arranged in a cruciform layout to the north and south in front of the presbytery, the chancel area. The Gothic portal dates from the late 14th century; it was reconstructed and left visible. The architecture thus offers two aspects to explore: the layout with its side chapels and the portal as a medieval feature.

The mini-exhibition on the history of Ptení is open during the municipal office’s opening hours. If you would like to visit, plan your visit around these hours.

Castle and Local History

The oldest surviving written mention of Ptení dates from 1131. At the beginning of the 16th century, members of the Šarovec family had the local manor house renovated in the form of a castle; Ptení gradually became the center of the Šarovec estate. Zámek Ptení is a multi-story late Renaissance castle with round corner towers. It was probably built at the beginning of the 17th century on the site of an earlier fortress. This chronology distinguishes the first written mention from the later changes to the manor house and the probable construction date of the castle.

The castle can be visited during events or work sessions while restoration is ongoing. On these occasions, visitors may see the Knights’ Hall, the Hunting Salon or a French-style room. Which rooms are accessible depends on the event. Check in advance whether an event or work session suitable for your visit is scheduled.

Historic Landscape and Route

The historic landscape of Ptení included surrounding forests, pastures and ponds. It also included a stretch of the Romže where two mills stood. This perspective complements the architectural and estate history with the area’s former uses: waterways, pastures and mills all belong to the same historic landscape.

The green hiking route offers another way to explore the area. The route description, updated in 2020, names Bělecký Mlýn as the starting point, passes through the center of Ptení and ends in Stínava. It therefore specifies the start, the passage through the town center and the destination. Unlike the history of the church and castle, the route describes a sequence of places to walk through, making it a distinct option for those interested in hiking.

The arrangements for planning a visit differ: the mini-exhibition follows the municipal office’s opening hours, while castle visits are tied to events or work sessions. Check in advance for a suitable date if either visit is important to your stay. The route description, by contrast, provides a named starting point, a path through Ptení and a destination.
