Rájec – Chapels, Bells and Floodplain Forests

Rájec reveals its special features at several clearly identified locations. The approximately 5.25-metre-high Sloup Nejsvětější Trojice stands as a sandstone column in the village and was erected in 1892 at their own expense by Josef and Anna Chrastil of Rájec. The approximate height and the specific year of construction are among the varying details associated with this structure; at the same time, the two private benefactors are specifically connected with Rájec.

Culture

The Zvonice in Rájec contains two bells. The year 1833 is engraved above the entrance to the Kaple v Rájci chapel; the first recorded Mass for this chapel was celebrated on 6 June 1911. The image of Saints Peter and Paul has been preserved to this day in the Kaplička svatého Petra a Pavla. Rájec therefore has several independent sacred structures, each with its own features: bells, an engraved year, a recorded date of Mass and a preserved image.

The structures mentioned retain their Czech proper names and preserve different forms of local sacred history: the Sloup Nejsvětější Trojice column, the Zvonice, the Kaple v Rájci and the Kaplička svatého Petra a Pavla. Each of these monuments has its own specific connection, ranging from the approximate height and private construction of the sandstone column to the dating of the chapel and the preserved image.

Nature

Part of the Litovelské Pomoraví site of community importance lies in the cadastral area of Rájec u Zábřehu, in the direction of Leština. The part of Litovelské Pomoraví relating to Rájec includes floodplain forests as well as habitats for rare plants, insects and animals. The place name Rájec u Zábřehu thus designates the cadastral area, while Litovelské Pomoraví denotes the overarching natural area with its floodplain forests and habitats.

The Studánka and the campsite at “Junáckém” are located in a small forest behind the local reservoir.

Geographical Location

Hrad Brníčko Castle is located in the vicinity of Rájec. Skalka hill is situated in the immediate vicinity of Rájec, while Cukrová Bouda hill lies in the surroundings of the village.

Obora hill is also located in the surroundings of Rájec. In the wider regional area are Lazek hill and the Nový Hrad ruins. These two destinations therefore do not belong to the immediate vicinity but are assigned to the wider regional surroundings of Rájec.

The Olomouc–Zábřeh railway line runs through the cadastral area of Rájec, but there has never been a railway stop in the village. Anyone considering this railway line for their journey must therefore distinguish between its route through the cadastral area and the absence of a stop in the village.
