Accommodation in Rokytnice
Location and landscape
Geographically, Rokytnice lies in the Hornomoravský úval; ethnographically, it is part of the Haná region. At its closest point, the Moravian Bečva flows about 600 metres from Rokytnice. Dolek, a small woodland with deciduous and coniferous trees, lies in the northern cadastral area. There are also wooded areas along the Bečva and in the northern cadastral area towards Kokory; deciduous trees predominate by the river. The description of the locality thus brings together a precisely named woodland, the river and other wooded areas.
Castle complex and local history
Rokytnice Castle is a three-winged, two-storey High Baroque building with a park. Together with St James’s Church, the adjoining park, the garden centre and the former farm buildings, it forms a complex listed as a cultural monument. The listing therefore applies to the complex and its various components. The three wings define the building’s form, while the two storeys describe its vertical layout. The term High Baroque places the castle in a particular phase of Baroque architecture.
Hradská Street offers a different historical perspective. As early as 1086, it ran around or through what would become Rokytnice, linking the castle-district centres of Olomouc and Přerov. It is unclear whether Hradská bypassed what would become Rokytnice or ran through the locality.
A report by Český rozhlas dated 9 May 2025 described daytime access to the castle complex. Check access arrangements before visiting.
Visiting the Firefighting Museum
The Hasičské muzeum Josefa Eichhoffa was established through the complete reconstruction of a former fire station dating from 1905. The year refers to the former station, not to the founding of the museum. Visits are possible on weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. by prior telephone arrangement. Confirm the hours when you call, as opening information may change.
Cycle routes and their different features
The Bečva Cycle Path passes through Rokytnice and is intended for cyclists, inline skaters, hikers and cross-country skiers. This description of its intended users applies to the cycle path as a whole, including the section through Rokytnice.
Cycle route 5042 Prostějov–Věrovany–Citov–Přerov passes through the municipal area of Rokytnice. West of the built-up area, it follows road III/43515; further along, it uses local roads and purpose-built paths. This route is described in terms of its specific course and the types of roads and paths it follows, whereas the Bečva Cycle Path is described by its intended user groups. Check current conditions before setting out. The historic Hradská road should not be confused with either of the two cycle routes.
