Landscape and natural surroundings

Senička lies below the eastern foothills of the Drahanská vrchovina and on the edge of the region known as Haná. The Blata stream runs along the southern edge of the village. In Rajčur, a pond and two wetlands are set in a wooded area; they are intended to provide suitable conditions for preserving native wildlife. A 2017 report described Rajčur as a revitalized destination for trips and recreation in Senička. This combines a regional landscape setting with a specific nature-related theme: Haná and Drahanská vrchovina locate Senička, while the pond, wetlands and stated conservation purpose characterize Rajčur.

Archaeology and architecture

The Senička-Záhumení archaeological site is a multi-period prehistoric site. This means that several prehistoric periods are associated with the site. Prehistory thus complements the village’s later historical evidence with a much earlier time horizon.

A distinctive building is the Chapel of the Guardian Angels. Its foundation stone was laid on 13 July 1734. The chapel is a single-storey rectangular building with pilasters and is listed as a protected cultural monument. Pilasters are flat, column-like features on a wall; the term describes an architectural feature of the chapel. The date and architectural form offer different points of reference for placing the building in its historical and architectural context.

The former watermill, dating from 1896, is the oldest surviving building in Senička. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dates from 1823. The reconciliation cross in a niche chapel in Senička is considered the oldest monument in the municipality; its age is estimated at around 400 to 500 years. The two superlatives do not contradict each other: the mill is classified as the oldest surviving building, while the reconciliation cross is classified as the oldest monument. The dates place the chapel, statue and former mill in chronological order from the 18th to the late 19th century.

Nature trail and cycling route

The Eliška z Kunštátu nature trail can be started in Senička. It passes the Chapel of the Guardian Angels in the village centre and has nine information panels. This connects a possible starting point in the village with a route that passes a protected cultural monument; the nine panels give the trail an informative character. If you are interested in a themed route, you can take this connection between the nature trail, the chapel and the village’s history into account when planning your trip.

The signposted Olomouc–Náměšť na Hané–Mladeč cycling route also passes through Senička. Compared with the nature trail, the difference is how each relates to the village: the nature trail can be started here and passes the chapel, while the cycling route passes through the village. For your trip planning, this highlights the difference between a cultural and historical themed trail and a signposted cycling connection.
