Landscape around Senice na Hané

The area around Senice na Hané is characterized by the attractive Haná Plain. The first hills of the Drahany Highlands begin to the west of the town. These are two distinct landscape features: the plain characterizes the surrounding area, while the hills of the highlands begin to the west. This transition gives your choice of destination a clear landscape setting.

Church and local history

The Church of St. Mary Magdalene is a cultural monument with an original Gothic layout and, at the same time, a valuable Baroque building dating from 1704–1705. The Gothic layout and the Baroque building phase thus represent different periods in the building’s history.

The earliest written mention of the church appears in the necrology of the Olomouc Chapter under the year 1333. A specific work of art on the main altar was created much later: the painting of St. Mary Magdalene was made by Olomouc painter Josef Pilz in 1794. The entrance area also makes it clear that the church tower is not aligned with the church building. Written records, the building’s history, and the altarpiece offer different starting points for exploring local history.

Historical monuments

You can also encounter traces of different periods outside the church. The statue of St. Giles in Senice na Hané is a Baroque sandstone sculpture from the 1730s by Ondřej Zahner. The Ecce Homo statue dates from 1827. A medieval reconciliation cross also stands on the road to the former Hliník brickworks. Together, these examples span the period from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.
