Bohutín Nad Moravou combines a long history with a landscape clearly shaped by the Morava River. The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, Zbová Hill, a summer open-air theatre below the hill and the Moravská stezka offer different points of interest for a stay. You can consider local history, views and route orientation as separate topics: the chapel represents architectural history and religious tradition, while the terrain and trails bring other aspects of the place into focus.

Between the Morava and the heights

In the east, Bohutín's terrain begins on the almost flat plain beside the Morava River. From there, it rises steeply to Zbová and, to the north, to Burdova hora. Zbová reaches 445 metres above sea level, and Burdova hora 498 metres. Zbová offers particularly beautiful panoramic views of the Morava Valley. The plain, rising terrain and panoramic views describe different impressions of the same area: the elevations put the hills in context, while the view from Zbová opens up the connection to the river valley.

The chapel and local history

The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was built in 1801 and is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. An earlier period is marked by the earliest written mention of Bohutín, dating to 1493. At the time, the place was called “Bohutínek.” These dates relate to different parts of the area's history: 1493 is associated with the earliest mention of the place, while 1801 marks the construction of the chapel. A pilgrimage is usually held at the chapel on 8 September. Thus, religious tradition, as well as the historic building, forms part of Bohutín's cultural character. If you would like to include a future pilgrimage in your travel plans, check the date for the year in question.

Events and open-air theatre

Putování za Bohutínskou žábou reached its 47th edition in 2025 and its 48th in 2026. The consecutive editions underscore the event's tradition. For a future edition, check the announced date. Below Zbová, the summer open-air theatre is part of a natural area. Its location on the hill connects the cultural venue with the landscape around Zbová, while the pilgrimage at the chapel provides a different religious focal point.

Trails and a geological feature

The Moravská stezka places Bohutín between Ruda nad Moravou and Bludov: the village lies halfway along the route between the two towns. A blue-marked hiking trail also runs through Bohutín. These are two different ways of getting your bearings: the Moravská stezka relates the village to the named towns, while the hiking trail is described by its markings and route through Bohutín. Check the local signs, as trail markings can change.

A geological feature can be found on Zbová Hill. The abandoned Bohutín–Zbová quarry lies on the western slope, about 500 metres east of the municipality. It contains one of the most significant occurrences of alpine-type fissure associations in the southern part of the Keprnická skupina. The quarry therefore offers a different connection to the landscape than the panoramic view from Zbová: here, the focus is on a geological occurrence, while the view looks out over the Morava Valley. If you are considering visiting the quarry, check the local access conditions beforehand.
