Tršice: Castle, Church and Nature Trail
Accommodation in Tršice
Tršice brings together several distinct themes to consider when planning a trip: the Renaissance remodeling of Tršický Castle, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the Otty Wolf Nature Trail, and the reservoir and Tršický Waterfall. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Tršice, these differences can help you choose the focus of your trip. You can decide whether to focus on architectural and local history, a loop trail connected with remembrance, or bodies of water.
Tršický Castle: Architectural Form and Renaissance Remodeling
Tršický Castle is a two-story building with three wings surrounding a small courtyard. There is a moat on the south side, crossed by a bridge leading to a late Gothic entrance portal. The architecture of the castle thus combines the courtyard with a clearly defined southern approach. In 1532, the castle underwent extensive remodeling in the Renaissance style, during which the two southern palaces were combined into a single wing.
The Tršice Museum is housed in three rooms on the ground floor of the castle. Its location connects the museum rooms directly with the historic building.
Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is a landmark in the center of Tršice. The Neo-Baroque building was largely constructed by local people working on a voluntary basis, within a single year. Its building history therefore differs from that of the castle: the church’s historical significance is shaped by its style, construction period and voluntary effort, while the castle is defined by its Renaissance remodeling in 1532 and the joining of the two southern palaces.
Otty Wolf Nature Trail: A Loop Trail Connected with Remembrance
The Otty Wolf Nature Trail is an approximately five-kilometer loop around Tršice, rated as physically easy, with five information panels. Its length and rating offer different points of reference for planning: the distance indicates the scope of the loop, while “physically easy” describes its stated level of difficulty. In terms of content, the trail combines exercise with historical remembrance. Its features include the Wolf family’s forest hideout and an information panel at the memorial to the victims of the Nazi destruction of Zákřov.
Reservoir and Tršický Waterfall
The Tršice Reservoir lies in the valley of the Olešnice and covers twelve hectares. Sport anglers fish there for carp, grass carp, perch, pike and zander. If fishing is part of your plans, check the applicable conditions and regulations in advance.
Tršický Waterfall is a cascade approximately three meters high. It lies directly in Tršice, below the local fortress, in the Tršická pahorkatina, the southernmost part of the Nízký Jeseník; its water comes from the overflow of Zámecký Pond. The cascade has been partly shaped by human activity. A path leads from the local fortress through the former castle park to the pond’s shore and provides access to the waterfall. Check whether the path is currently accessible before your visit.
