Určice: Church, History and Marked Routes
Accommodation in Určice
Určice lies in the western part of Haná, southwest of Prostějov, at the foot of the Drahanská Highlands. Its historical themes give the town a cultural focus; the routes provide guidance along named paths.
Church and Religious Heritage
The present-day Church of St John the Baptist was built in the Baroque style between 1727 and 1734. A freestanding tower stands directly beside it and is reliably dated to the mid-15th century. The tower is therefore considerably older than the Baroque church; the two buildings mark different phases in the town’s history.
A crypt beneath the church contains the mortal remains of Kateřina z Kravař. The establishment of the Marian pilgrimage site in Určice is associated with the parish priest Pavel Alexander Jakšíček. A statue of St Florian dates from 1766. These themes add remembrance and pilgrimage to the architectural history; the statue provides a distinct, specifically dated landmark.
The timeline runs from the freestanding tower of the mid-15th century, through the church built between 1727 and 1734, to the statue of 1766. This makes it possible to place the different building phases and a later-dated religious work in context.
Walking and Cycling Connections
The marked green walking route runs from Otaslavice through Určice to Plumlov. Určice is therefore an intermediate stop along this named route. If you choose your stay based on walking interests, this route provides a specific reference point for planning your trip.
Marked cycling route No. 5013 starts in Prostějov and continues via Určice, Výšovice and Skalka into the Němčicko microregion. Marked cycling route No. 5041 is listed as the Určice–Vranovice–Dobrochov–Vyškov connection. Route No. 5013 has a specific starting point and a named continuation into the microregion; for No. 5041, the sequence of connected places is the main feature. This distinction can help when comparing routes by their reference points: the walking route runs from Otaslavice through Určice to Plumlov, while for cycling, either Prostějov as the starting point or the sequence of towns on the listed connection is the key. Určice is the common reference point for both cycling connections.
Historical Documents
Visitors can consult historical documents at the Určice library. Alongside the architectural and religious themes, this offers another point of interest: the focus here is on historical records and consulting them, not on a route. Check the arrangements for consulting the documents before your visit. This will help you decide whether to plan your stay around the historical themes or a marked walking or cycling route.
