Věžky can be explored through several specific themes: the plains shaped by river deposits, historic buildings, the combined Vlkoš–Věžky cycling and walking path, and the sports facilities. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip, you can first consider which focus suits your stay. Local history and physical activity cater to different interests and points of reference.

Landscape and geographical setting

Over thousands of years, the plains in the Věžky area were shaped by gravel deposits carried by the Bečva, Moštěnka and Morava rivers. The rivers are therefore part of the landscape’s formation. The cadastral area of Věžky includes part of the area between the Přerov–Brno railway line and the Moštěnka stream. This brings together two distinct geographical perspectives: the long-term formation of the plains and the location of part of the cadastral area between the named landmarks. The Moštěnka plays a different role in each context: it carried gravel that formed the plains and, alongside the railway line, serves as a reference point for part of the cadastral area.

Chapel and wayside shrine

The oldest surviving written record of Věžky dates from 1349. The Boží muka, a wayside shrine on the outskirts of Věžky, was erected in 1740. The shrine has an unusual shape and stands in a field beneath three lime trees. At the centre of Věžky stands the Chapel of the Virgin Mary. The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built by the municipality in 1821. The dates mark different historical points of reference: 1349 is the year of the oldest surviving written record, while 1740 and 1821 are the construction years of the shrine and the chapel. The two buildings also differ in location: the chapel stands in the centre of the village, while the shrine is on the outskirts beneath the three lime trees.

Cycling and walking path, sports facilities and competition

The combined Vlkoš–Věžky cycling and walking path was built in 2004 and is designed for pedestrians and cyclists. Both modes of transport are therefore catered for on the same named path. The sports facilities offer something different: they include tennis courts, volleyball courts, various climbing and play equipment, and a sandpit for children. The path is shared infrastructure for cycling and walking; the facilities bring together a range of sports and play options. Check the current availability of the facilities before visiting.

The “Zlatá diabolka” shooting competition is held annually at the sports facilities. If you would like to include the competition in your travel plans, check the specific date separately. The path, facilities and competition therefore each involve different planning considerations: the intended mode of transport, the current availability of the facilities, and the specific event date. You can tailor your stay to your interest in physical activity, sports and play options, or the annual competition.
