Vikýřovice lies on the left bank of the Desná River, with a railway line running east of the town. For planning your trip, cultural history, events and different routes are all potential focal points. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Vikýřovice, you can first consider whether you are more interested in the Muzeum silnic, historic architecture, an event, or a cycling, hiking or cross-country skiing route.

Culture at the Muzeum silnic

The Muzeum silnic is located in the historic Krenišovský dvůr in Vikýřovice. One permanent exhibition is titled “Z historie a současnosti našich silničních mostů” and explores the history and present of road bridges. Another permanent exhibition is about the lives and work of the Klein brothers. The subjects therefore range from road bridges to the Klein brothers. The courtyard displays renovated road maintenance machinery and a wooden statue of Saint Christopher.

Historic buildings and their history

The Renesanční tvrz has been preserved as a massive, single-storey building with arcades. Its exterior walls are more than a metre thick. The Chapel of Saint Anthony was rebuilt in 1777 as a brick chapel in the Classicist style. Following flood damage in 1997, it was fully reconstructed in 2000–2001. The chapel’s history thus includes both an earlier phase of construction and its later restoration after the flood.

The sandstone Sousoší Kalvárie ensemble has been protected as an immovable cultural monument since March 2007 and was reconstructed in 2024. The Zámeček in Vikýřovice stands out for its interesting Neo-Renaissance architecture with elements of French design. These buildings offer different historical perspectives: from the solid form of the Renesanční tvrz and the chapel’s construction history to the architecture of the Zámeček.

Cycling, hiking and cross-country skiing

The marked Nedvězí–Kladské Sedlo cycling route passes through Vikýřovice. The Šumperk–Skřítek–Velké Losiny–Šumperk cycling route also runs through the town. The 14-kilometre Šumperk–Anenský Dvůr–Vikýřovice–Šumperk hiking route passes through Vikýřovice. In winter, the 20-kilometre Skřítek–Rabštejn–Hvězda–Traťovka–Vikýřovice cross-country skiing route reaches its destination in the town. The two routes with stated distances are therefore 14 kilometres for hiking and 20 kilometres for cross-country skiing. Check local trail conditions before setting out; for the winter cross-country skiing route, also check the local winter conditions and track status.
