Vranovice-Kelčice as a travel destination

Vranovice-Kelčice combines the two localities of Vranovice and Kelčice into one municipality, which was formed in 1964 under its official name. Landscape, village character and the views from Předina are key points of reference when planning your trip. The municipality lies in the Prostějov Hills, on the southwestern edge of the Upper Moravian Depression. The terrain is gently undulating, with low rolling hills; broad, rounded ridges are crossed by the valleys of the Kelčický potok. The stream runs through the entire length of the settlement from west to east. This landscape gives the area a clear geographical setting.

History and village character

Written records begin at different times: Vranovice is first mentioned in records in 1337, while the first reliable written mention of Kelčice dates to 1258. Their ownership histories also differed. From the 16th century until 1848, Vranovice belonged to Prostějov; Kelčice remained in the ownership of the Olomouc Chapter until 1848. Clearly recognizable linear village layouts, with distinctive two-storey farmsteads, have been preserved in Vranovice and Kelčice. The farmsteads and street layout make this settlement type a visible part of local history. The Church of St. Kunhuta (Kostel sv. Kunhuty) is a Romanesque cultural monument and is among the oldest churches in the Prostějov region. The parish associated with it in Vranovice has been mentioned since 1399.

Natural surroundings and views from Předina

In the western part of the cadastral area, the Blátka Nature Reserve extends into Vranovice-Kelčice. It includes meadows, wetlands and woodland around the Kelčický potok, and is home to protected plants. The protected area covers about 84 hectares and was designated in 1985. The rounded hills and stream-carved valleys are therefore complemented by the varied landscapes of Blátka.

Předina reaches an elevation of 313 metres and is described as the geographical centre of Moravia. Předina is located within the territory of Kelčice, above Dobrochov; a radio transmitter and the Štátule viewing tower stand there. The wooden tower is 10 metres high and has an 8-metre-high viewing platform. From there, views extend to the Jeseníky, the Hostýnské vrchy, Záhoří, the Drahanská vrchovina and the Chřiby. Which of these destinations are visible depends on visibility and vegetation. The viewing tower is listed as freely accessible year-round; check its condition before visiting. In the past, Předina was also a destination for outings and gatherings.
