Výšovice: Castle History and Véšovské košt
Accommodation in Výšovice
Výšovice is a destination for travellers who want to shape their stay around the area’s specific local and cultural history. The focus is on the castle in the town centre, the history of the parish and Véšovské košt, a tasting held at the castle. Cyclists can also get their bearings in the area via marked route No. 5013. This makes it possible to decide in advance whether you are more interested in historic architecture and church history, a food and drink event, or the cycle route.
Výšovice Castle and its Architectural History
Výšovice Castle is a significant urban feature in the town centre and is protected as an immovable cultural monument. It is listed in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic under registration number 5866. In 1796, the castle was remodelled into its present form. Reconstruction began in 1999 and also included the restoration of frescoes. These two dates should be distinguished in the building’s history: 1796 marks its remodelling into its present form, while 1999 marks the start of the later reconstruction, which included the restoration of the frescoes.
The Parish and Ecclesiastical Heritage
The parish of Výšovice has been documented since 1345; it ceased to exist around 1630 and was re-established in 1760. Its history therefore includes an early documented period, an interruption and a later re-establishment. The heritage listing of the church complex is a separate matter: the complex of the Church of St Lawrence was added to the list of Czech cultural monuments in May 1958. This date relates to the listing of the complex, not the re-establishment of the parish. Another local connection to religious history is a statue of St John of Nepomuk in Výšovice.
Véšovské košt: Tasting and Refreshments
Véšovské košt offers tastings of slivovitz, fruit brandies and homemade liqueurs in the function rooms of Výšovice Castle. Visitors can sample all the competition distillates and homemade liqueurs. The first edition took place on 21 February 2009; it was then decided that the event would be organised regularly. The specific dates for each edition are important when planning a visit, so check them in advance.
Depending on the edition, refreshments include tripe soup, boiled pork knuckle, smoked ribs, homemade sausage, beer and non-alcoholic drinks. These examples illustrate the range, from hot food to drinks, but should not be taken as a fixed offering at every edition. When planning, check the refreshments for the relevant edition as well as its date.
Cycling to and through Výšovice
Marked cycle route No. 5013 starts in Prostějov and runs through Určice, Výšovice and Skalka. Both the starting point and the places along the route are therefore specified: Prostějov is the starting point, and Výšovice lies on the route between the other named places, Určice and Skalka. This sequence gives cyclists a concrete reference for navigating the route. Before setting off, you can check the latest detailed conditions, as they may change.
