Šedivec combines a nature trail about forest management with marked hiking and cycling routes, as well as the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This gives you a choice of different themes when planning your trip: learning about forests, exploring routes on foot or by bike, and discovering the history of the village’s architecture. The locations and routes can help you decide more precisely what you would like your trip to focus on.

Nature trail and forest themes

The Bažantnice–Obora nature trail offers insights into the history and present-day practice of forest management, historical context, and the area’s natural features. Its range of topics extends from history to forest management today, and also includes the area’s nature. If you are planning an outing with a particular focus, the trail offers more than just a route: forest management and its historical context are also among the topics covered.

The trail ends at Šedivec–Obora, by a former forester’s lodge. Please note that access is seasonal. Buses serve the trail’s endpoint near Šedivec; alternatively, you can return to Letohrad. Check the timetable for your chosen day before setting out.

Hiking and cycling

A blue-marked hiking route runs from Letohrad through Šedivec to Nekoř. Trail conditions on this route may change seasonally. The distinction between it and the nature trail can help you choose your route: the blue-marked route continues through the village to Nekoř, while the nature trail ends at Šedivec–Obora and focuses on forest management and the area’s natural features.

Cyclists can also take route 4074. It is marked with white bands and leads to Šedivec after crossing road I/11. The crossing is part of the described route; road conditions may change. Take the road crossing into account when planning and check current conditions. The hiking routes differ in their themes and paths, while the cycling route is also distinguished by its markings and the I/11 crossing, which serve as important reference points.

Landscape and local history

Šedivec is a small mountain village on a hill rising above the valley of the Tichá Orlice. The hill slopes down towards the Divoká Orlice and Nekořský potok. This helps place the village in its setting, with the valley and the two named slopes as points of reference.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands at the foot of the hill above Šedivec. Construction of the church was completed in 1898. Šedivec was first mentioned in writing in 1539. These dates provide two distinct historical reference points: the first written mention of the village and the completion of the church. If you are interested in local history, they help you distinguish the history of the village from the history of its architecture.
