Bošín offers several distinct points of interest for planning a trip: an adjacent nature reserve, an educational trail that passes through the village, and religious and historical landmarks. If you are looking for a hotel in Bošín, it helps to first decide whether nature, the route or cultural heritage will shape your stay. The village’s features give you specific points of reference.

Bošínská obora Nature Reserve

Bošínská obora borders Bošín. Its landscape includes meadows in the former game preserve and pheasantry, distinctive solitary trees, park-like landscaping and an artificial pond. The nature reserve covers 36.7811 hectares and was first designated on 1 May 1995. It protects near-natural floodplain woodland with imposing old trees; several protected bird, beetle and plant species are also found in the preserve. The landscape and its design form one aspect of the area, while the floodplain woodland and protected species form another.

Educational Trail and Circular Route

The “Choceňská naučná stezka” educational trail passes through Bošín. The circular route is 35 km long in total and is divided into two loops of 16 and 19 km. The shorter loop is therefore 3 km shorter than the longer one—a direct comparison of the two route lengths. A shortcut runs from Kostelecké Horky through Bošín to Choceň. The total distance, loops and shortcut offer different points of reference for planning the walking portion of your trip.

The two highlights differ in what they offer for choosing the kind of trip you want: the preserve can be understood through its landscape, protected status and species, while the educational trail is defined by its route and specific loop distances.

Chapel and Cultural Monument

The Chapel of Saint Filoména dates from 1854. It is a subsidiary church of the Roman Catholic parish in the Choceň deanery. The organ and the altarpiece of Saint Filoména are protected as immovable cultural monuments. The year it was built, its church affiliation and the two named items of furnishings offer different insights into the chapel.

The Cyrilometodějský reconciliation cross is a roughly hewn sandstone cross about one metre high. A Cyrilometodějský cross is engraved in the stone; the left arm is broken off. This cross is also protected as an immovable cultural monument. Unlike the chapel in the village, it lies about 50 metres beyond Bošín’s marked boundary, at the edge of a strip of woodland along the road from Bošín to Běstovice. The two cultural sites therefore differ both in appearance and in location.

Getting There and Getting Around

There is a bus stop in Bošín. Parking is limited: on a paved area in front of the grocery store in the village centre and by the Chapel of Saint Filoména. If you are travelling by bus, check the timetable in advance. If you are arriving by car, take the limited parking into account when planning your trip.
