Cenkovice: Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing and Culture
Accommodation in Cenkovice
When planning a stay in Cenkovice, it is worth choosing when to visit based on the activities you have in mind. In winter, downhill skiing and cross-country skiing shape what the area has to offer; in summer, the Sportovní areál is open to visitors. Historic buildings and the Čenkovička natural monument add culture and nature conservation to the sporting attractions. Compare the options to decide what to focus on before looking for a hotel for your trip.
Winter sports: downhill skiing and cross-country skiing
The Čenkovice ski area has seven downhill runs, two of which are designated for night skiing. There is also a snow park with its own lift. The ski area's layout may change from season to season, as may the snow park's operation. Check the latest operating information before your trip.
For the winter season, three machine-groomed cross-country ski trails measuring 8.3 km, 8.6 km and 17.5 km are offered in the Čenkovice, Buková hora and Suchý vrch area. More than 30 km of machine-groomed trails are maintained in the area. The three routes connect to cross-country ski trails in the Orlické hory Mountains. In terms of length, the two shorter routes are similar; the 17.5 km route is about twice as long as the 8.3 km and 8.6 km routes. Grooming depends on snow and weather conditions. Take this into account when planning and check conditions for your planned day of cross-country skiing.
Summer activities and off-road karts
The Sportovní areál in Čenkovice is open to visitors during the summer season. Facilities include refreshments, a tennis court, a miniature golf course, courts for volleyball, nohejbal and football, and a small climbing wall. There is also a children's playground with a sandpit. Playground operations are seasonal, so check the venue's latest opening details before visiting.
For the off-road karts, a ski lift takes users to the top of the hill. The descent follows the grassy Vigona ski slope. The karts are suitable for children and adults and are designed for a safe downhill ride. As this is a seasonal activity, it is advisable to check current operating information before travelling.
Buildings and local history
The protected cultural site kostel sv. Vavřince comprises the church, the enclosing wall and the cemetery gate. The late Baroque church was built between 1780 and 1782 on the site of an older wooden church, which was already mentioned in 1667. These dates represent two different stages in the area's history: the first mention of the earlier wooden building and the later construction of the church.
Another landmark is the Kříž u kostela sv. Vavřince, a stone cross on a pedestal with a figurative relief. It dates from 1800 and was restored in 1920. The socha sv. Jana Nepomuckého is a valuable High Baroque sculpture dating from 1736. The bývalá evangelická fara čp. 68 is also part of the area's historic building stock: this historically significant building dates from the first half of the 19th century.
Čenkovička natural monument
The Čenkovička natural monument protects a rich population of spring snowflakes. This specific nature conservation feature complements the winter sports, seasonal activities and historic buildings. Cenkovice therefore offers a range of travel interests that can be prioritised in different ways depending on your interests and the time of year.
