If you are looking for a hotel in Damníkov, it is worth first matching the town’s highlights to the reason for your trip. Architectural history, countryside, cycling and equestrian activities offer different points of interest. Several periods of construction come together at the church; the mill, the forests and the leisure activities add further themes to this picture. This can help you decide which of them will be of particular interest during your stay.

Countryside and getting your bearings

Damníkov lies at the foot of the forested Hřebečovský Ridge in the Třebovský mezihoří and below the Třebovský Saddle. The Lukovský stream flows through the town and joins the Moravská Sázava. The ridge and the stream provide distinct points of reference in the landscape. Road 43 is also useful for getting your bearings: it runs through Damníkov to Lanškroun, 6 km away, and continues to the recreational areas of the Orlické Mountains and the Polish region of Kłodzko. This puts a specifically measured destination and further regional destinations on the same road connection. This distinction can help you separate a stay in the town from onward travel plans.

Forests, cycling routes and equestrian activities

The surrounding forests offer locals and visitors a place to relax and are suitable for picking mushrooms and blueberries. Marked local cycling routes intersect in Damníkov. The Gloserovi riding club offers riding groups, as well as riding and show-jumping training for children aged six and over. These options offer different focuses: relaxing and foraging in the forest, cycling on local routes, and equestrian activities. If you are travelling with children, you can take the age requirement of six and over into account; it gives a specific indication of who the club’s activities are for.

Church and historic traces

The Church of St John the Baptist is a Neo-Gothic building dating from 1898. It preserves a Late Gothic portal from around 1500 and ornamented tombstones from the 16th century. At this same church, the Neo-Gothic building and the older surviving elements can be viewed as distinct layers from different periods. A Baroque rectory dating from 1754 stands beside the church.

Damníkov is also home to a statue of St John of Nepomuk dating from 1713. A Baroque statue of St Procopius, dating from 1710, commemorates the former church. This commemorative role is explicitly part of the local history associated with the statue of St Procopius.

The disused Rychtářský mlýn mill stands near the church; all that remains of it is the massive dam of a storage reservoir. Originally, the mill belonged to the hereditary judge’s estate. It remained in the Zorn family’s possession until the 20th century, although they usually leased it out. Its history adds an economic dimension to the religious buildings: ownership and use did not simply coincide here, since the mill was usually leased out.

Chronologically, the sequence runs from the portal dating from around 1500 and the 16th-century tombstones, through the rectory of 1754, to the church building of 1898. This order makes tangible the time gap between the surviving older elements and the later Neo-Gothic church.
