Dlouhoňovice: Trails, Views and Local History
Accommodation in Dlouhoňovice
Dlouhoňovice lies below the wooded hills of the Žamberská pahorkatina. The village combines a nature trail with hiking and cycling routes, sports facilities and traces of local history. This gives you a choice of different focuses when planning your trip: a trail exploring local history and geology, a hike to named destinations, or seasonal activities. The Výhledna and the preserved wooden bell tower add their own historical and scenic highlights.
Nature Trail and Railway Station
The nature trail in Dlouhoňovice is 4.2 kilometres long and starts at the railway station. Along the way, it introduces visitors to local history and the geological origins of the area. Its length and starting point give the route a clear framework; its themes connect the village’s history with the formation of its landscape.
The station is on route No. 021 and has borne the name Žamberk since it was built in 1874. The nature trail therefore starts at a place whose station name has a long history. Those interested in local history will find another historical reference here, in addition to the bell tower and the Výhledna.
Hiking Destinations and Cycling Route
A yellow-marked hiking trail runs through Dlouhoňovice to Písečná and the ruins of Žampach Castle. In the opposite direction, you can hike through the Kriegwaldy Valley to Litice Castle and continue to Potštejn Castle. The destinations distinguish the two directions: Písečná and the ruins of Žampach lie one way, while Litice and then Potštejn lie the other, through the Kriegwaldy Valley.
A cycling route also passes through the village: CT 18 is designated along the Choceň – České Libchavy – Žampach – Dlouhoňovice – Žamberk section. This places Dlouhoňovice on a specifically named sequence of route stops. For planning a hike, by contrast, the yellow trail markers or the Kriegwaldy Valley and the respective destinations are the key points of distinction.
Seasonal Sports Activities
The Dlouhoňovice ski area has a floodlit ski lift with artificial snowmaking and groomed cross-country ski trails. It operates seasonally and depends on snow and local conditions. So if you are planning your stay around winter activities, check the conditions locally in advance.
In summer, the floodlit ski lift can also be used for grass skiing and rides on mountain scooters. So, in addition to winter activities, the seasonal offering includes these activities specifically mentioned for summer. The village also has a skatepark, and the sports area includes a children’s playground.
History and Views
A wooden bell tower dating from 1797 has been preserved in Dlouhoňovice. The Výhledna was completed on 16 September 2009 and ceremonially opened on 19 September 2009. Its entry in the Czech Book of Records was also confirmed at the opening. These two places complement the trails and sports facilities with different aspects of local history.
In fine weather, the Výhledna offers views of the entire ridge of the Orlické Mountains, the Králický Sněžník massif and Buková hora. In good visibility, the Krkonoše Mountains can also be seen on the left horizon. Weather and visibility therefore determine how far you can see; at the ski area, snow and local conditions determine seasonal operation. You can take these different conditions into account when choosing when to travel.
