Janovicky: Village Green, Chapel and Loučná
Accommodation in Janovicky
Janovičky is a place with a triangular village green, a chapel and a local history in which the volunteer fire brigade plays a role.
Village Green and Chapel
Janovičky lies in flat terrain. Smaller cottages and larger farmsteads line a triangular village green, which also has a chapel. A bell tower stands in the middle of the green. Together, these features form a distinctive ensemble of homes, a chapel and a village green.
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary has an almost square ground plan. A cross and a relief of the Madonna are set in the niche on its front; it is topped by a small tower with windows. These architectural details give the building a distinctive form, setting it apart from the larger farmsteads and smaller cottages in the village.
The Loučná and Routes through Janovičky
The Loučná River forms most of Janovičky’s boundary. Because of the possibility of flooding from the Loučná, plots in this part of the village were considered disadvantageous. Roads also connect Janovičky with the surrounding area: the village is linked by road to Radhošť and Vraclav.
Two different route descriptions are relevant for planning your trip. Cycle Route 4186 runs from Dobříkov via Zámrsk and Janovičky to Malejov. A hiking route runs from Zámrsk to Radhošť along the Loučná through Janovičky. The description of this hiking route was last updated in 2010; check trail conditions and access before setting out. The cycling route names the places along its course, while the hiking route explicitly follows the Loučná and connects Zámrsk with Radhošť.
Fire Brigade and Community Life
The Janovičky Fire Brigade was founded in 1924 and organizes community events. These include Čarodějnice, which is also listed in the 2026 events calendar, and Zabijačkové hody. The municipality’s anniversary publication from December 2024 also describes the fire brigade’s preparations for the district’s annual fire sports competitions and its repeated qualification for the regional round.
Past event notices offer different examples but do not establish a current schedule. Four varieties of potato specialties were planned for the Bramborákové hody announced for 7 October 2017 at the fire station. On 23 November 2019, the fire brigade invited people there to Zabijačkové hody. A municipal invitation dated 27 May 2023 listed various schnitzel dishes, traditional drinks and competitions for children at Řízkobraní. If an event is important to your trip, check the specific dates in advance.
There is a children’s playground at the railway station. If you plan to visit, check its current condition beforehand. This allows you to consider the village’s architectural features, the routes described and the events on offer as different possible focuses for your trip.
