Discover Krasíkov: Monastery Ruins, Chapels and River
Accommodation in Krasíkov
Krasíkov between architectural history and the Moravská Sázava
Krasíkov combines architectural history with a distinctive river landscape: local highlights include the remains of the Augustinian monastery, several chapels and stone monuments, as well as the Moravská Sázava, whose riverbed forms a large S through the village. When planning a stay, you can choose between historical and cultural details, activities by the river, and a hiking route. If you are looking for a hotel in Krasíkov, you can weigh these options according to what interests you most locally.
Monastery ruins and Baroque chapel
Only parts of the Augustinian monastery’s church building perimeter walls, which rise above ground level, remain. The presbytery, cloister and other buildings of the monastery complex probably survive as archaeological remains. The Chapel of the Guardian Angels was built in the Baroque style in 1725 and stands in the centre of Krasíkov, on road II/368, which runs from Štíty to Moravská Třebová. In front of the chapel is a statue of Saint Florian made of Maletín sandstone. An inscription on its pedestal records that Johann Habiger of house no. 57 commissioned it in 1828.
Monuments, sandstone and dates
The Holy Trinity ensemble stands on the Sázava between a concrete bridge and a power station, near house no. 75. Its sandstone pedestal bears the date 1803. A deconsecrated Neoclassical chapel stands by house no. 122; the sandstone lintel above its door bears the date 1814. These dates serve different purposes: 1803 and 1814 are dates inscribed on stone architectural elements, 1828 dates the commission for the statue of Florian, while 1725 is the year the Baroque chapel was built. This makes it possible to distinguish the construction dates from later details concerning individual monuments.
River and hiking
The Moravská Sázava’s riverbed forms a large S in Krasíkov. When water levels are suitable, the river is often used by canoeists. If you are considering a canoe trip, check the water level, as the river can only be used when conditions are suitable.
A hiking guide published in 2021 describes an 8.9 km route that starts and ends at Krasíkov railway station. It leads to Koruna Panny Marie, the area above the Krasíkovský tunnel and the village chapel. Along the way, it crosses the Moravská Sázava on footbridges and follows the former railway corridor toward the old Tatenice Tunnel. Trail conditions may change; check the current route and conditions before setting out.
Railway landmarks for orientation
Krasíkov has the last railway station and tunnel in the Czech section of the main railway line. Near Krasíkov, trains heading toward Olomouc enter a 1,098-metre-long railway tunnel. These are distinct points of reference: the described hike starts and ends at the railway station, while the tunnel information concerns the train journey toward Olomouc.
