Lichkov is a foothill municipality at an altitude of about 560 meters, near the state border with Poland. A cultural monument, the military museum, and trails to the Czechoslovak border fortifications are the main factors shaping the choice of places to visit during your stay. If you are looking for a hotel in Lichkov, you can first decide whether the museum, a hike, or both should be the focus of your trip.

Cultural Monument and Military Museum

The Church of St. Joseph the Worker (Kostel sv. Josefa – dělníka) was declared a cultural monument by a decision of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic on December 7, 2011. It gives the local profile a different focus from the bunkers and border fortifications: a distinct ecclesiastical heritage site alongside the military history attractions.

The Vojenské muzeum Lichkov is located in the pre-war infantry bunkers K-S 31 “U besídky” and K-S 32 “Na růžku” between Lichkov and Mladkov. Its exhibition covers armored vehicles in Czechoslovakia from 1918 to 1945. At the museum site, the bunkers as exhibition venues and the history of vehicles as the subject matter come together.

The museum is on the western edge of the municipality, about 200 meters from Road 312 between Lichkov and Mladkov. Use this information for general orientation, and check the museum’s current visiting arrangements before your visit.

The K-S 25 “Na Sedle” infantry bunker is also located in the cadastral area of Lichkov. Inside is an exhibition by the private Muzeum Vysoký kámen. As the private museum’s operation and access should be checked before your visit, please confirm in advance whether a visit is possible and under what conditions.

Hiking Trails and Border Fortifications

A blue-marked access route leads from Lichkov to the Betonová hranice trail system. It also connects the Vojenské muzeum Lichkov to the entire system. As trail markings can change over time, check the signs on site.

The approximately 15-kilometer Betonová hranice is a circular hike with 23 information panels. They cover various aspects of the construction, purpose, and history of the Czechoslovak border fortifications. The circular trail combines a clearly defined route type with several stops covering different aspects of the fortifications.

A short section of the route passes through Orlice Nature Park in the Tichá Orlice valley. Most of the route runs through Suchý vrch – Buková hora Nature Park. Both nature parks are therefore part of the hike’s geographical setting, with the greater part of the route in Suchý vrch – Buková hora Nature Park.

A green-marked route leads from Lichkov railway station to Bouda Artillery Fortress. Unlike the Betonová hranice circular hike, this route has a named starting point at the railway station and a named destination at the fortress. This lets you distinguish the two routes by their different focus: a circular hike with information panels about the border fortifications, or a marked route from the railway station to the artillery fortress.
