Nekoř: Churches, trails and Pastviny Reservoir
Accommodation in Nekoř
If you are looking for a destination with cultural history and waterside activities, Nekoř offers a range of options. Nekoř lies in the foothills of the Orlické Mountains, along the Divoká Orlice River. The Nekořský potok stream flows through the village. Churches, a fire service museum and the remains of a medieval castle add to the activities available at Pastviny Reservoir. When choosing where to stay, you can weigh up whether local history, outdoor trails or water sports matter most to you.
Churches, a museum and traces of history
The Church of St. Nicholas in Nekoř dates from 1698. Its reconstructed organ is played at organ concerts, adding a musical dimension to the building’s history. The Husův sbor was built in 1935 and is a church of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. The two construction dates offer a timeline to keep in mind as you explore the village; if you are interested in religious architecture, both churches are worthwhile stops.
The Hasičské minimuzeum displays historic fire pumps from 1874 and 1909; the later one has been reconstructed. The dates illustrate the span of time covered by the exhibits, while the reconstruction offers another detail about the newer exhibit. Examples of traditional timber houses have also been preserved in Nekoř. This traditional wooden construction adds a different form of architectural heritage to the churches.
In the village district of Údolí, the Zvonička bell tower lies near the Pastviny Reservoir recreation area. One of the cycle routes passes by the bell tower. Its construction date is given with a caveat: the Zvonička is believed to have been built in 1775. On Vejrov, meanwhile, the remains of a small, unidentified medieval castle have been preserved. They are located on a rocky ridge above the right bank of the Divoká Orlice, near the Pastviny Reservoir. The bell tower and castle remains thus offer two different historical points of interest, without needing to be joined into a single route.
Water, walks and cycle routes
The dam of Pastviny Reservoir and its surrounding area lie within the cadastral territory of the municipality of Nekoř and offer good conditions for water sports. The reservoir area also offers opportunities for sport fishing. This makes room for different interests on the water: sporting activities at the reservoir and fishing as a separate pursuit.
The surroundings of the balancing reservoir of Pastviny Reservoir, known as Malá přehrada, together with the Údolí holiday settlement, invite visitors to take walks. Several hiking trails and cycle routes pass through Nekoř. When planning your visit, you can distinguish between the specific walking area mentioned at Malá přehrada and the other hiking and cycling options in the village. At the Zvonička, there is also a specific route detail: one of the cycle routes passes right by it.
A seasonal river activity is boating on the Divoká Orlice in May. The starting point is the fire service sports ground in Nekoř. If this trip fits your plans, check the date for your chosen year in advance. This allows you to plan the May activity separately from the walks, hiking trails and cycle routes described elsewhere.
