Slatina combines a long history of churches with a distinctive cultural landscape. The church on the hill, the historic house U Stratílků and an orchard provide tangible points of interest for travelers interested in architectural history and the landscape. A cycling route, along with information about the railway line and bus services, adds practical travel-planning details to the picture of the town.

Cultural History in Slatina

The Church of “svatého Petra a Pavla” is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Its Romanesque origins date back to the first half of the 13th century. It stands on a hill and is visible from the surrounding area. This gives it both a clear historical context and a prominent position in the landscape.

The long house next to the church is preserved and well maintained; it is known as U Stratílků. The building was first mentioned in 1610, then under the name Panský hostinec. The two neighboring buildings represent different historical milestones: the church’s Romanesque origins and the house’s first recorded mention. Together, they illustrate the town’s architectural history and development through two concrete examples.

The Český svaz chovatelů has been active in Slatina since 1983. Numerous cultural and sporting events take place on the association’s grounds. If you would like to include a particular event in your travel plans, check the relevant dates in advance.

Landscape and Viewpoints

An orchard on the rise near the church continues to contribute to the area’s old-world atmosphere. Numerous dry grassland species grow on marlstone in the orchard area. This brings both the orchard’s distinctive atmosphere and the plant life on marl into focus.

The painter Josef Kubizňák (1909–1990) especially appreciated the view of the church from the slope below the railway line from Choceň to Vysoké Mýto, at a place called Krátké lány. This specifically located viewpoint adds another perspective to the description of the church’s position on the hill.

Cycling Route and Transport

The cycling tour “Vysokomýtskou kotlinou na Vraclavský hřbet” passes through two sections associated with Slatina: Vysoké Mýto–Slatina, on cycling route 18, road 3574, and 3.6 km long; and Slatina–Sruby, on cycling route 4230 and 1.4 km long. The first section is therefore more than twice as long as the second; the route numbers also differ. These two route details give you a concrete comparison for planning a cycling trip.

The railway line from Choceň to Vysoké Mýto runs south of Slatina. Bus services also run through the town, with two stops. For bus travel, check the timetable in advance so you can plan your journey using the latest information.
