Village setting and getting there
An avenue of nearly a hundred-year-old lime trees lines Bílov’s village square, with two ponds at its centre. The trees frame the square’s bodies of water. For visitors, this offers a tangible first impression of the village. The nature trails introduce other topics, differing in their routes, subject matter and the user groups explicitly named.
Bílov is one kilometre from the Plzeň–Most main road. Road conditions and traffic can change, so check the current route before setting out.
Nature trails spanning mythology and Christianity
The Stezka slovanských bohů (Trail of Slavic Gods) is intended for cyclists and walkers; its final stop is in Bílov. The trail features depictions of Slavic gods created by students from the Plasy grammar school. The explanatory content is based mainly on Josef Růžička’s 1924 book Slovanská mythologie. The visual depictions are thus paired with a literary source that forms the basis of the explanations. Signs and trail surfaces may change; check the markings and trail conditions before setting out.
The Cesta jediného boha (Path of the One God) takes a different approach. It runs from Potvorov via Bílov and Červená hora to Mariánská Týnice, linking the Romanesque church in Potvorov with the Baroque building in Mariánská Týnice. The route is approximately ten kilometres long. Its 15 information boards present aspects of Christianity; it is marked with blue-and-white squares and can be walked in either direction. The Romanesque church and Baroque building create an architectural contrast along the described route. For route planning, the approximate length gives an indication of scale, while the sequence of places and the marking colour offer further practical guidance. Check the markings and trail conditions on site, as signs and conditions may change.
The two nature trails have different features to consider when choosing between them: the Stezka slovanských bohů is intended for cyclists and walkers and explores Slavic mythology. The Cesta jediného boha passes through several places, is approximately ten kilometres long and presents Christian themes. You can take into account the stated user group and your preferred subject when making your choice.
Cycling and historical landmarks
The marked Baroko 1 cycling route can be reached just beyond Bílov, unlike the Stezka slovanských bohů, whose final stop is in the village. Check the Baroko 1 markings on site.
Visible remains of a village destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War can still be found in Bor Forest. In the direction of Červená hora lies a former Celtic burial site. These landmarks add other historical themes from the Bílov area to the nature trails’ religious and mythological focus.
