Chudenín combines a tangible border history with cultural and natural attractions. The town originally developed as a Chod village at a border guard post on the road between Bohemia and Bavaria. This origin gives the town’s history a clear connection to the border. The border also plays a role in excursions: nearby crossings make day trips to the Bavarian side and in the opposite direction possible.

Border History and Trails

The border crossings at Svatá Kateřina (Rittsteig) and Fleky (Hofberg) offer this cross-border perspective. From either crossing, day trips are possible both to the Bavarian side of the border and in the opposite direction.

A specific link between the border and the town is cycle route 2050: it runs from the Fleky–Hofberg border crossing via Chudenín to Nýrsko and is 9 km long. Its route differs from the “Krajinou pod Medvědí kaplí” nature trail, which starts and ends in Chudenín. The cycle route continues beyond the town to Nýrsko.

Chapel and Historic Preservation

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary dates from 1834. Its roof and façade were reconstructed in 1986. A memorial lime tree stands beside the chapel.

Since 1990, local monuments in Chudenín have been undergoing restoration. A protected tree can also be seen in Chudenín.

A cycle route also runs alongside the Chudenínský rybník pond. It is described as a route by the pond; no connection to cycle route 2050 is implied. Before riding route 2050, check the current signage and route conditions. Route 2050 runs from the Fleky–Hofberg border crossing via Chudenín to Nýrsko and is 9 km long; the nature trail starts and ends in Chudenín.
