Nečtiny: Cultural History and Historic Buildings
Accommodation in Nečtiny
Nečtiny presents the history of its buildings and community in different ways through its castle, chateau, church and museum. The Mlýnská Trail also connects the town with Manětín, follows the Starý potok and explores mills and water power. This gives you a choice when planning your trip between historic buildings, regional exhibition topics and a route connected to the landscape.
Castle, Chateau and Historic Architectural Styles
Preitenštein Castle (Breitenstein) was built on a hill as a large castle before 1333. The outer walls of the castle and palace, as well as a passage leading to the cellars, have survived among the ruins. The ruins of Preitenštein Castle (Breitenstein) are also designated as a significant archaeological site. Its early origins and specific surviving structural features come together here: the castle can be understood both through its history and through its surviving walls and ruins.
Zámek Nečtiny is a Neo-Gothic complex opposite Preitenstein Castle. Its U-shaped layout and wings of different lengths enclose a courtyard of honour. Thus, two different architectural forms stand side by side: the large castle, which existed before 1333, and the Neo-Gothic chateau complex with its courtyard. The layout, wings and courtyard of honour are the defining architectural features of Zámek Nečtiny.
The Church of sv. Anny
The Church of sv. Anny also has a history of construction in several phases. It was built in 1450–1462, destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War and rebuilt by Václav Adam Kokořovec in 1655–1657. The single-nave interior has a flat ceiling. It also features a semicircular triumphal arch, a wide chancel and a sacristy with a burial place. The single-nave space and flat ceiling describe the basic form; the triumphal arch, chancel and sacristy add architectural detail.
Exhibitions at Regionální muzeum Nečtiny
Regionální muzeum Nečtiny features exhibitions covering different aspects of history. Četnická stanice focuses on the former gendarmerie station in Nečtiny, which was one of the twelve gendarmerie stations in the political district of Kralovice. Lesnictví a dřevařství explores the importance of forests as a source of livelihood and as a source of raw materials for glassworks and other businesses. Národopis Nečtinska is housed in a log-cabin room and presents part of the history of Nečtinsko. The range therefore extends from the history of a specific institution to the economic importance of forests and regional history. The exhibition displays may change.
Mills, Water and Landscape
The Mlýnská Trail offers a different perspective. It connects Nečtiny with Manětín and runs through beautiful countryside along the Starý potok. Its focus is on mills and the power of water. Unlike the architectural and exhibition topics, here the watercourse connects the route to the landscape, while the history of mills provides its thematic focus. Below Preitenštein Castle in Nečtiny there are also basalt columns that may be among the longest in Bohemia.
