Plánice: Discover Křižík, Baroque architecture and trails
Accommodation in Plánice
Plánice combines cultural history with marked trails and sports facilities. Several of these themes are close together in Plánice; the Křižíkova cesta also starts here, while a cycling tour places the town on a route between Újezd and Klatovy. This makes it possible to plan your stay around specific interests.
Křižík and the architectural history of Plánice
The museum in František Křižík’s birthplace has a modern exhibition. Křižík was an electrical engineer, inventor and entrepreneur. Its connection with his birthplace links the museum to his biography; the three professional roles describe different aspects of his work. This gives culture enthusiasts a specific subject to explore, distinct from the city’s architectural history.
With its broad entrance staircase, the Church of St Blaise is a prominent landmark in Plánice. It was built to designs by Kilián Ignác Diezenhofer. In the Baroque church, the main altar painting is changed several times a year. Alongside the architectural attribution, this makes the recurring practice and the design of the altar painting distinct aspects of the building.
Plánice’s square is also home to the Holy Trinity Column, an example of regional Baroque stone carving and sculpture from the early 18th century. By comparison, the Church of St Blaise combines the history of a church building with its attribution to an architect, while the column represents regional sculpture. The two monuments offer different ways to explore Baroque art in Plánice.
Another Baroque work is located in Nicov: the pilgrimage Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is in the nearby village, 2 km from Plánice, and was designed by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer. This allows you to include a nearby cultural attraction in your travel plans, while the Church of St Blaise and the Holy Trinity Column are among Plánice’s own sights.
Hiking route, cycling tour and nature park
The marked red Křižíkova cesta starts in Plánice and runs via Nepomuk to Rokycany. These places help you follow the hiking route: Plánice is its starting point, Nepomuk lies along the way, and Rokycany is the destination. If you choose a route based on its stops, this one offers a clear sequence through several places.
The “Krásnou krajinou do Plánice” cycling tour follows a different route. It runs from Újezd via cycle route 2082 to Plánice, then returns to Klatovy via cycle route 2080. The two options therefore differ in activity and route: the hike starts in Plánice and leads to Rokycany, while the cycling tour reaches Plánice on its way from Újezd towards Klatovy, then continues on.
The landscape also has its own connection to choosing where to visit: Plánice lies in the protected “Plánický hřeben” Nature Park. The nature park complements the cultural themes with a geographical perspective on the surrounding area. Together with the hiking route and cycling tour, it gives you a picture that distinguishes nature, activity and local history rather than combining them into a single activity.
Sports facilities and practical information
Plánice’s sports complex has three multifunctional courts with a synthetic surface and lighting for ball sports. It is open daily year-round during operating hours. If you are considering using the sports complex, check the current opening hours before you arrive.
Plánice’s information centre distributes promotional materials and sells souvenirs. If you intend to make use of either service, check in advance what is currently available, as arrangements may change. This lets you plan your trip around the town’s cultural and natural attractions while also taking practical information into account.
