There are several ways to make the most of a stay in Struhadlo: explore the nature trail, enjoy the viewpoints and discover the village’s historic traces. The Tupadelské skály are also nearby. When comparing hotels, it helps to first consider whether hiking, scenery or local history is most important for your trip.

Hiking on marked trails

The “Spiessova naučná stezka” nature trail follows marked hiking paths through Struhadlo. It is approximately 16 kilometres long and has six stops. The third stop is titled “Struhadlo / Patersdorf”. On the way to Struhadlo along the nature trail, there is an uncovered rest area.

Another option is the 16-kilometre “Bezděkovské kolečko – ke struhadelskému kříži” route. It is recommended for hikers as well as cyclists on mountain bikes or trekking bikes. The route approaches Struhadlo from Soustov via a signposted side road. It crosses the busy I/22 road between Klatovy and Domažlice; traffic levels may vary.

The route lengths offer a specific comparison: the nature trail is approximately 16 kilometres, while the “Bezděkovské kolečko – ke struhadelskému kříži” route is 16 kilometres long. These figures refer to two differently named routes, which also have different described features. The nature trail is characterised by its six stops and route through Struhadlo, while the second route is recommended for hikers and certain types of bicycle.

Elevation and views

Struhadlo lies at an elevation of about 608 metres above sea level, below the ridge whose summit is Velký Bítov. From Struhadlo, there are views of Klatovy, Bezděkov and Šumava. At Struhadelský kříž, the views extend in all directions, and photography is also possible there. A route leads from Struhadlo to this cross, which stands at 692 metres above sea level.

Another natural feature near Struhadlo is the Tupadelské skály. They form a rock belt approximately 230 metres long. The rocks are usually around ten metres high; at Kočičí hlava, they reach up to 15 metres. The Tupadelské skály are designated as a state-protected natural monument and are used by climbers. This makes them a different kind of destination from the views at Struhadelský kříž: here, the rock formations and their dimensions are the main attraction.

Traces of local history

The layout of the village also offers a historical point of reference. It has changed little over the centuries. This continuity is also visible on the map from the First Military Survey, dating from the second half of the 18th century. You can connect this long view through time with the specific places that played a role in the village’s history.

There used to be a bell tower in the village square. House No. 20 was once an inn. In the 19th century, a general school for local children stood on the road from Struhadlo to Tetětice. Struhadelský kříž is also associated with a specific date: it was consecrated in October 2009. Thus, Struhadlo brings together various historical points of reference—from the village layout, which has changed little over a long period, to individual former institutions and the cross.
