Different interests can shape a trip to Týnec: the park behind Zámek Týnec, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, and the historic sites in Loreta. When looking for a hotel in Týnec, you can plan your trip around whether you are more interested in parkland, church architecture, or a walk to chapel ruins. Each theme offers a different perspective on designed landscapes, historic architectural styles, and traces of mining.

Parkland behind Zámek Týnec

The park behind Zámek Týnec features a central avenue, broad meadows, and a striking stand of old trees. Rare species include the Caucasian fir, yellow-variegated yew, plane tree, copper beech, columnar English oaks, and valuable old lime trees. The park can be described not only by its location behind the château: the diversity of its trees and woody plants is also a subject in its own right. The avenue, meadows, and mature trees create distinct landscape features and contrast with Týnec’s historic buildings.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and its architectural history

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Týnec dates back to the mid-14th century. A tower, sacristy, and gallery for the nobility were added in the second half of the 17th century. Its architectural history thus includes a medieval origin and later additions. One of the church’s notable details is a 16th-century Gothic fresco depicting a kneeling knight within an acanthus frame. The south door is an intarsia-decorated Renaissance feature dating from 1617 and bears the monograms of Jan and Alena z Wiederspergu. The fresco and door showcase different artistic details that can be considered separately when exploring the church.

The church complex also includes the Kolowrat family crypt, the cemetery gate, and the cemetery enclosure wall. Its historical context therefore encompasses not only the church building but also these cemetery features. This offers a different perspective for planning a trip than looking at individual decorative elements: here, the focus is on the complex as a whole and its different parts.

Chapels and walking routes in Loreta

The Loretánská Chapel in Loreta was reconstructed in the 1990s. The coats of arms of the Kolowrat and Vrbna families are on its east façade. It is distinct from the ruins of the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, which date from the first half of the 18th century. Today, only the chapel’s perimeter walls remain. The comparison highlights two different states of preservation: a reconstructed chapel and the remains of another, reduced to its perimeter walls.

The ruins can be reached from Týnec via a 1.5 km walking route. Another route description starts at the Loretánská Chapel: from there, you can take a walk of about 1.5 km to the ruins and back. Along the way, the route passes the upper and lower outlets of the Loreta adit and a former hunting lodge. Both descriptions give a distance of 1.5 km, but refer to different routes: one is for the walk from Týnec to the ruins, while the other is for the round trip from the Loretánská Chapel. A yellow-marked hiking trail also passes through Týnec.

Štola Loreta: natural monument and traces of mining

Štola Loreta is a protected natural monument and the most important bat hibernation site in West Bohemia, especially for greater mouse-eared bats, Natterer’s bats, Daubenton’s bats, and brown long-eared bats. The year 1889 is inscribed on the portal of the lower entrance to the old Loreta mine, though it is difficult to make out. Its protected status, bat population, and old portal illustrate different aspects of Štola Loreta: protected nature, an important hibernation site, and a visible trace of mining history. If you are interested in nature and culture, this place offers several specific points of interest.
