Accommodation in Úboč
In Úboč, points of interest range from the Church of St. Nicholas and folk architecture to an old memorial tree and longer routes on foot or by bike. The historic sites and routes offer different starting points for planning your visit. You can tailor your trip depending on whether you are mainly interested in building phases, surviving traces or longer routes.
The Church of St. Nicholas and its architectural history
The single-nave Early Gothic Church of St. Nicholas dates from the 13th century. “Single-nave” describes a church with one main nave and identifies the basic type of building. Its architectural history also includes later additions: a new choir and a sacristy were added in the second half of the 14th century. During the Baroque renovation, the Chapel of St. Anne, with an oratory and a stairway extension, was built in 1763. The church therefore shows distinct building phases from the Middle Ages through the 18th century.
Fortress, folk architecture and memorial tree
The remains of Úboč Fortress survive in the parish garden as horseshoe-shaped ditches and ramparts. In places, they are up to 5 metres high. These earthworks offer a different way to explore the history of the village than the church: here, the surviving ditches and ramparts take centre stage.
Folk buildings are also part of Úboč’s historical heritage. Several noteworthy examples survive, including a masonry granary. Material from the demolished Church of St. Wenceslas was used in its masonry. The granary thus connects a surviving rural building type with the history of an older church.
Another point of interest is the Jehlíkova lípa memorial tree. It stands on the embankment of the pond above the mill and is about 350 years old. The church, granary, fortress remains and memorial tree differ in their form and historical associations, so you can plan your visit around architectural history, earthworks or a specific feature in the landscape.
Hiking and cycling
A green-marked hiking route runs from the ruins of Netřeb through Úboč to the Koráb lookout tower. It is 15.5 km long. Check the trail markings locally before setting out.
For cyclists, the blue-marked Chudenice cycling circuit passes through Úboč between Němčice and Všepadly. It is about 55 km long. The two routes differ in both the mode of travel and the distance: the hiking route covers 15.5 km, while the cycling circuit is about 55 km. These distances can help you choose the type of route that suits you, though they do not indicate how long it will take to walk or cycle.
