Únehle: History, Mill and Archaeological Traces
Accommodation in Únehle
Únehle brings together several distinct traces of the past and features of the area: its first written mention dates back to 1115; there are also medieval ownership records, a history of milling, archaeological findings and the road bridge. The topics range from historical milestones to specific structures and find sites. If you are planning a stay, you can consider these aspects separately, starting with the history, archaeological findings or built environment. This offers a way to explore everything from written historical references to architectural and archaeological features.
History in Several Stages
The first written mention of Únehle dates from 1115. In 1232, King Wenceslaus I gave Únehle to Teplá Monastery. In the second half of the 14th century, Únehle belonged to the estate of the town of Stříbro; Stříbro owned Únehle until 1547.
The sequence of dates runs from an early mention through a transfer to later ties with Stříbro. Mention, transfer, lordship and ownership refer to different historical events. This distinction helps place the history of the area in context as a series of different aspects, rather than simply listing the dates.
Mill and Road Bridge
In 1875, Johann Wittich decided to build a mill on the outskirts of Únehle. The mill’s water system discharged water into the Kšický stream. These details offer two perspectives: the decision to build is associated with a person and a year, while the watercourse establishes a specific connection to the Kšický stream. The mill story thus covers everything from a decision to undertake a construction project to the course of its outflow.
The road bridge in Únehle has been preserved in its original condition, without disruptive modern alterations. For the bridge, the focus is therefore on its state of preservation, while the mill can be explored through its construction and watercourse. If you would like to include the bridge in your exploration of the area, confirm its condition before your visit.
Archaeological Traces
Alongside Bronze Age finds, a Hallstatt-period grave has also been identified near Únehle. The burial site at Únehle consists of approximately 45 burial mounds in a defined group. This brings different scales together: a single grave associated with Bronze Age finds and a spatially defined group of burial mounds. The approximate number indicates the size of the burial site, while its boundaries describe how the mounds are grouped.
Routes Through Únehle
Road II/193 runs through the village centre and connects Stříbro, Únehle, Kšice and Erpužice. Cycle Route No. 2222 also runs through Únehle. Check its number and route locally before setting off. The two details answer different planning questions: the road names the places it connects, while the numbered cycle route provides a further point of reference through Únehle. Plan according to your chosen mode of travel; if you are cycling, checking the route locally is a useful step.
