Všenice: Nature, Trails and Local History
Accommodation in Všenice
If you are considering Všenice as a destination for a hotel stay, its local highlights can help shape your travel plans. The village combines a landscape along the Korečnický Stream with historical connections ranging from former mining to the chapel and village square.
Floodplain, Nature Park and Trails
Všenice lies on a slope that descends gently northwards towards the floodplain of the Korečnický Stream. The stream is a right-bank tributary of the Berounka. To the north, the inhabited area gives way to the natural areas of the floodplain, which form Všenice’s natural landscape setting. The slope, stream and floodplain give the village a distinct landscape character.
Všenice is also located within Berounka Nature Park. The park protects the preserved landscape character of the deeply incised Berounka Valley and its tributaries. The listed landscape features include rock outcrops, adjacent woodland areas and agricultural landscapes. Cultural landmarks in the landscape and historically valuable settlement architecture are also among them. Both the natural environment and the evolved cultural landscape therefore form part of the village’s character.
Všenice is a suitable starting point for walking trails along the Korečnický Stream towards the Berounka. If you would also like to plan your stay around trails through the landscape, this route offers a specific point of reference. Všenice railway station is on line 176, Plzeň–Radnice. Mining History by the Stream
Pyrite shale was mined in V Potocích until 1880. The foundations of the former Berk excursion inn are still visible beside the stream. The history of the former mine also includes its extent: its tunnels ran beneath Lavičky and Kašákův lesík. Today, the tunnels have been filled in. The extraction of a specific material, the surviving foundations and the former extent of the tunnels thus represent different aspects of the local past.
Chapel and Local History
Another historical landmark is the chapel in Všenice. On 16 August 2015, it was reconsecrated and dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi. At the reconsecration, the chapel’s bell was returned to it; it had been donated by Jiří Šimek. The date, dedication and bell give the building a specific place in the village’s recent history.
The village square is also part of the local character: the park areas there and a memorial to the citizens who fell in the World War are considered locally significant. Individual examples of rural architecture, also considered significant, are another feature. Historically valuable local landmarks also include objects from a blacksmith’s forge dating from the 15th century. The timeline spans objects from a 15th-century forge, the mining of pyrite shale until 1880, and the chapel’s reconsecration in 2015.
