Discover Vochov’s History and Culture
Accommodation in Vochov
Vochov brings together religious, archaeological and industrial history, along with points of interest for getting around and finding your bearings. If you’re looking for a hotel in Vochov, you can explore the town through the themes that interest you: the chapel and brickworks represent different chapters from the Vochov Venus or memories of past excursions. An annual harvest festival is also part of the local events calendar.
Chapel, Brickworks and Local History
The Chapel of Saint Anne dates from 1820. The brickworks in Vochov was founded by Prince Lobkowicz in 1830. It was known for high-quality bricks used for buildings, chimneys and durable paving. These details offer two distinct historical perspectives: a religious building and a business whose bricks were used for various construction purposes.
Archaeology and Industrial History
The Vochov Venus is considered the first anthropomorphic figurine from the Neolithic period to be found in Bohemia, and the only fully preserved figurine of its kind found to date in Czech territory outside Moravia. The original is on display in the prehistoric exhibition at the West Bohemian Museum in Pilsen. If you’d like to include the figurine in your stay, check the current exhibition details before visiting.
The Semler factory adds another chapter to the area’s production history: it began by making nails and later developed into a wire factory. Under the SEM brand, it mainly produced gramophone needles. The Maskovaná milenka was a decoy operated by the Škoda Works in Pilsen. It covered an area of about 100 hectares between Vochov and Vejprnice and was intended to deceive Allied forces during air raids. It was dismantled after the war.
A more recent chapter in the town’s history is also precisely dated: in April 2022, the Vochov Beautification Society (Okrašlovací spolek Vochov) returned the base of the Cross of Saint Adalbert to its original location and used it for a new installation.
Educational Trail, Cycle Route and Surroundings
Vochov’s historical educational trail has ten stops. This presents the town’s history across several locations rather than at a single building. A route for Cycle Route No. 37 is described as of 2008: after passing through Křimice, it continues to Vochov. Check current route conditions before setting out. The Mže River flows near Vochov, adding a river to the area’s points of reference.
The Svatovojtěšský trojúhelník was held for the first time in 2024 as a walking and cycling tour. Participants walked and cycled from the railway station in Křimice via Hornička to Vochov. The routes were 6, 10 or 15 kilometres long; some participants continued as far as the Cross of Saint Adalbert on the boundary between the cadastral areas of Vochov and Kozolupy. The three route lengths give a concrete sense of the range of distances covered on that excursion.
Harvest Festival and Planning Your Visit
The Vochovské dožínky is an annual harvest festival. In 2025, it took place on Saturday, 13 September, from 3 pm at the grounds by the municipal office. Exact dates and programmes may change, so check the announcements for the relevant year when planning a future trip. Historic sites, the educational trail and individual dated excursions offer insights into different facets of Vochov.
