Řemíčov: Silver Mining and Routes
Accommodation in Řemíčov
Řemíčov combines a long local history with traces of silver mining and several connections to hiking and cycling routes. You can therefore plan your trip around cultural history, a tour, or both interests.
Silver mining as part of local history
The first written mention of Řemíčov dates from 1456. Silver ore mining in the area began under František Küenburg in the mid-18th century. From 1757 to 1762, the Küenburgs extracted 2,713 kg of pure silver from the mines at Řemíčov. These details mark different milestones: 1456 is the date of the first written mention, the mid-18th century marks the beginning of mining, and the later years saw a specifically quantified amount of silver extracted.
A marble plaque on house No. 1 commemorates the silver works founded there in 1751. The “Leopoldova štola” drainage adit was also opened near house No. 1. The house originally served as the residence of the chief mining official, accommodation for miners, and a base for other mining operations. These former uses illustrate different aspects of mining: it involved not only silver extraction, but also administration, accommodation, and operational tasks.
Another historic landmark is the “Sv. Trojice štola” adit. It was established south of Řemíčov, at the site where the mining settlement of Starý Cech later developed. The two adits thus also differ in location: “Leopoldova štola” is near house No. 1, while “Sv. Trojice štola” is south of the village, at the site of the later settlement.
Walking and cycling routes
The “Stříbrná osmička” educational trail passes through Řemíčov. It is about 50 km long and is also suitable for cyclists. A green-marked hiking trail also passes through Řemíčov and continues via Mladá Vožice, Pavlov, Staniměřice, and Smilovy Hory. The two routes therefore differ both in their classification as an educational trail or hiking trail and in the route details provided for each.
Cycling route No. 1177 passes through Řemíčov and continues via Louňovice pod Blaníkem, Předbořice, Kamberk, Skrýšov, Šebířov, Mladá Vožice, Stará Vožice, Hlasivo, Ratibořice, Jeníčkova Lhota, Čekanice, and Tábor. When comparing the routes, you can refer to the different details provided: the “Stříbrná osmička” has an approximate length and is suitable for cyclists, the hiking trail is identified by its sequence of places, and cycling route No. 1177 by its number and continuation. Check the current route and trail conditions before setting out on a specific trip.
