Černýšovice – Juniper Grove and Village History
Accommodation in Černýšovice
You can get to know Černýšovice through three themes: the Černýšovické jalovce Natural Monument south of the village, the bell tower with the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk on the village square, and paths that run through Černýšovice. The Všechlapský stream flows through the lower part of the village. There is also a local walking trail and routes for cyclists. You can therefore shape your stay around nature, local history, or excursions on foot and by bike.
Juniper Grove and Natural Monument
Černýšovické jalovce lies south of Černýšovice and is protected as a natural monument. It protects a significant stand of more than 300 common juniper specimens. The natural monument was first placed under protection on January 21, 1988. The specific location, protected status, and named juniper stand together provide a clear focus for planning a trip centered on nature. If nature conservation is of particular interest to you, you can give this focus priority alongside village history or local paths.
Bicycles must be walked for the last approximately 300 meters to the natural monument. Check local conditions before setting out.
Stream and Location in the Village
The Všechlapský stream flows through the lower part of Černýšovice and empties into the Lužnice to the west. The stream and its mouth describe two parts of the same geographical context: its course through the lower part of the village and the point where its waters flow west into the river. Together with the natural monument’s location to the south, these provide different local reference points to help you find your way.
Bell Tower, Village Square, and History
The bell tower with the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk stands at the northern edge of the oval, sloping village square. The building dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The chapel extension added seating; the chapel is dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk. Its exact location on the square is thus linked to a building whose date of construction and later addition are documented.
According to local tradition, Černýšovice was founded in 1390. This brings together two distinct historical time references: the local tradition about the village’s founding and the much later construction period of the bell tower. The annual pilgrimage in Černýšovice takes place on the second Sunday after the feast of St. John. If you are planning your trip around this occasion, check the exact date for the relevant year.
On Foot and by Bike
A local walking trail runs through Černýšovice and offers opportunities for excursions in the surrounding area. Cyclists have two named routes to choose from: the KČT 30-km cycling route passes through the village. The “Hrdinové minulé doby” cycle tour also passes through Černýšovice, following cycling route 1136. The routes can be distinguished by their respective features: the KČT route is specified as 30 kilometers long, while the second tour is identified by its route along cycling route 1136.
