If you are looking for a hotel in Borečnice, the local points of interest can help you decide on your destination. Borečnice combines a history dating back to the 14th century with two chapels and routes for walking and cycling. Historical dates, the chapels’ building histories and route details offer various starting points for your stay.

Village history linked to Písek

Borečnice is documented in writing from 1354. At that time, Jakub of Borečnice served as deputy burgrave in Písek and administered its revenues. On 14 March 1405, Mikuláš, known as Volyňský and then the owner of the village, transferred Borečnice along with two mills to the hospital in Písek, which had been founded by the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star. The two dates link the village to Písek in different ways: in 1354 through Jakub’s office and work, and in 1405 through the transfer to the hospital there.

Two chapels and their building histories

The village chapel is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1855 after the bell post previously in use had fallen into disrepair. The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes has a different origin story: it was built of rubble stone in 1871 above Tlučkův Mill, modeled on the pilgrimage chapel in Lourdes and at the request of the grandmother of the local miller, Kubricht. It was reconsecrated on 1 May 2012 after residents and holiday-home owners from Borečnice renovated it. The dates mark two phases: construction and consecration in 1871, and renovation and reconsecration in 2012.

The former mill on the Otava

Tlučkův, Sulanův Mill is part of Borečnice’s history and was first mentioned in writing in 1405. The former mill stood on the left bank of the Otava and was demolished in connection with the construction of the Orlík Reservoir; the building has not survived. The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes is also connected with the site of the mill: it was built above it. Thus, the village’s history brings together accounts of the mill and the chapel’s building history, even though the mill building itself no longer exists.

Sedláčkova Trail and cycling connections

The Sedláčkova Trail is a specific reference point for walking and cycling. It is 35 kilometers long, was renovated in 2006 with a modified route, and is designated as cycling route No. 1225 for shared use by pedestrians and cyclists. Cycling route 1158 takes the trail to Borečnice; cycling route CT1158 continues from Borečnice to Zlivice. When planning your trips, you can consider the details according to their function: the length and shared use describe the Sedláčkova Trail, while route 1158 indicates the connection to Borečnice and the continuation to Zlivice.

For a place to stop for refreshments, Fešácká hospoda offers an outdoor area and a playground. As these facilities may change, check before your visit whether the outdoor area and playground are currently available.
