Kronfellern (Dasný) has two clearly distinct aspects: the long village green with its chapel and farmhouses, and the natural and scenic features of the surrounding area. The chapel, farmsteads and former road to Vodňany shape its cultural and historical character; the protected area, Bezdrev pond and cycling routes add further points of interest. When planning your trip, you can consider its architectural history and landscape as separate themes.

Village Green and Historic Buildings

The central, elongated village green in Dasný is mostly grassed and planted with trees. The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk stands in its center. There are also three farmhouses on the green with design features in the folk Baroque style. Historic farmsteads on the village green have preserved a high level of historical and architectural value. Together, the layout of the square, the chapel and the farmsteads offer a tangible insight into the village’s building heritage.

An imperial road to Vodňany was built in the 1820s and crossed the village green diagonally. This historic transport route adds a former function as a thoroughfare to the village center. It is part of the village’s history and should be distinguished from the cycling routes.

Chapel and Local History

The chapel was built between 1869 and 1870 in the Neo-Romanesque style. The residents of Dasný funded it together, and it was consecrated on 6 June 1870. Its construction period and exact consecration date place the building within a clearly defined historical period.

The village’s political affiliation was also divided. In the last two centuries before the abolition of serfdom, Dasný consisted of two halves: the northern part belonged to the Hluboká estate, while the southern part belonged to the royal city of České Budějovice. This division describes a spatial division between north and south. The chapel’s joint funding adds a different emphasis: here, the residents acted together.

Protected Area, Pond and Scenic Views

The Vrbenské rybníky protected area overlaps with the cadastral territory of Dasný. It encompasses ecologically valuable aquatic, wetland, meadow and forest ecosystems, as well as rare and protected plant and animal species. These include the critically endangered fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina) and hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita).

Nearby, north of Dasný, lies Bezdrev pond, which covers 520 hectares. It is used for swimming and water sports, particularly sailing and windsurfing. The two places offer different attractions: Vrbenské rybníky is known for its diverse ecosystems, while Bezdrev is used for swimming and water sports.

The scenic views also have different points of reference. From Dasný, there are panoramic views of Hluboká nad Vltavou Castle. The surroundings of Dasný also offer views of the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Hosín.

Cycling Routes and Route Details

The 50-kilometer Velký okruh Blaty cycling loop passes through Dasný. The route described runs between Češňovice and České Budějovice. Another route to České Budějovice branches off to the right beyond the village and follows a very poor farm and forest track alongside a pond. The routes therefore differ in the planning details described: the loop is defined by its total length, while the other route is notable for its poor surface. As route conditions and track surfaces can change, it is worth checking the current route and surface before setting out.
