Drhovice combines a historically shaped village setting with waterways and a recommended cycling route. If you are considering the village as a destination for a hotel stay, its history, the layout of the centre, the chapel, the landscape, or cycling may shape the focus of your trip. This lets you decide in advance whether you are primarily interested in local history, the landscape, or cycling.

Village Centre and Chapel

The historic village layout includes a spacious public centre resembling a village square, dominated by a chapel. The village setting can therefore be viewed as a combination of chapel and centre: what matters is not just a single building, but also the shape of the public village space.

The Chapel of Jména Panny Marie is on the left-hand side of the road from Drhovice to Padařov. A description from 2021 notes that it is occasionally accessible. Before your visit, check whether the chapel will be accessible on your chosen date.

Local History and Land Ownership

Drhovice is one of the older Czech settlements. Its name is thought to probably derive from its founder, Druh, or his followers. The name of the local landowner, Volkmar of Druhovice, appears in written records in 1219.

Part of the historic village belonged to the property of the monastery in Louňovice. Another part belonged to the Lords of Rožmberk and was connected with Příběničky Castle. The village of Malé Drhovice, also known as Drhovičky, probably developed from this farmstead around 1459. The dates refer to different aspects: 1219 to the name of the landowner, and around 1459 to the probable establishment of Malé Drhovice.

Waterways and Landscape

The Pilský potok flows through Drhovice. Mlýnský rybník and the Pilský potok are the most significant waterways in the landscape around Drhovice. The regional biocorridor RBK 315 Velká hora–Příběnice is also designated along the south-western edge of the area.

If you are planning a hike in detail, check the boundaries of the biocorridor on current maps. This will help you take its designated location into account when planning, without treating it as a specific hiking route.

Cycling Route and Dates

A recommended cycling route passes through Drhovice, continuing from the direction of Padařov towards Oltyně. At the same time, there is no marked cycle route through the area. These are two different pieces of information: a recommended route through the village and the status of route markings in the area. Check current route conditions and signs before setting out.

On 8 September 2024 and 14 September 2025, a Marian pilgrimage Mass was held in the Chapel of Jména Panny Marie. If you are planning to travel to Drhovice for such a Mass, check in advance whether one has been announced for your visit date.
