Explore Haškovcova Lhota through its archaeological educational trail, landscape and historical landmarks. This offers several perspectives for planning your trip: an outing along the Smutná, the village setting with its chapel and linden tree, and traces of a former trade route.

Landscape and Archaeological Educational Trail

Fields, meadows and forests surround Haškovcova Lhota. The landscape is bounded by the Lužnice to the east and the Smutná stream to the west. The two waterways frame the landscape from different sides; the educational trail follows the Smutná.

The archaeological educational trail can be walked as an outing of about 15 kilometres on both sides of the stream. Below Haškovcova Lhota, it crosses the Smutná via a footbridge. The route has seven information stations. The length and the stations provide two different points of reference: the approximate distance helps you gauge the scope of the outing, while the stations highlight the trail’s archaeological focus. If you are planning the walk, check the trail conditions in advance, as they may change.

Chapel, Tree and Historic Routes

A chapel built in 1856, with a bell, stands on the village green in Haškovcova Lhota. The bell is said to ring on Sundays at 12 noon. Check locally whether this schedule is still in effect. The chapel’s year of construction provides a specific historical reference point in the village setting.

A linden tree near house no. 1, at the entrance to Haškovcova Lhota, is considered the oldest tree in the village. Its age is unknown, but its trunk circumference indicates that it is considerably older than the two chestnut trees dating from 1887. Unlike the chapel, therefore, the linden’s age cannot be linked to an exact year of construction; instead, it is assessed by comparison with the dated chestnut trees.

A historic trade route also passed through Haškovcova Lhota. It ran from Mirotice via Orlík, Milevsko, Sepekov, Hánov, Srlín, Rataje and Bechyně to Soběslav. This sequence of places situates Haškovcova Lhota on a route that extended well beyond the village.

South of Haškovcova Lhota is a wayside shrine dating from approximately the first half of the 19th century. Together with the chapel, it allows for a comparison in time: the chapel was built in 1856, while the shrine is dated only approximately. Their locations also differ: the chapel stands on the village green, while the shrine is south of the village.

Village Green and Getting There

There is also a playground on the village green. A municipal report from 2025 stated that it had been built as ordered and had been serving its intended purpose since November of the previous year. This describes the situation at that time. Check its current condition locally before visiting.

For getting there, an older timetable reference gives a specific date: from 12 December 2022, bus services on route 390 248 between Bechyně and Opařany served the village green in Haškovcova Lhota. This information describes the timetable at that time. If you plan to travel by bus today, check the current timetable before setting out.
